I remember reading somewhere that the standard ASM systems actually use two mufflers rather than resonator/muffler approach. I'm not sure how accurate this info is, can anyone confirm?

On an exhaust you can have a strait pipe or a pipe with any number of resonators on the exhaust. The ASM is a exhaust system with two resonators, the one mid-pipe and the tail piece. To my knowledge the midsection resonator is the one that is prone to rattling.

I am not sure of the inner construction of the ASM resonator, as some companies use a chambered setup not a "straight through" design. Something like this:

but based on the canister shape and size and the exhausts low weight I think they are using the conventional "straight through" design with sound deadening "scruffle" and perforated inner core. Correct me if im wrong.

Tommy,

i bought my S2000 in Japan and shipped it home. It has a 60mm SS ASM exhaust. It now rattles, I dont know how ASM can say that this is only a "bad batch" and is export market specific..
Sounds like excuses to me.
I would like to know what ASM are going to do for people like me who have bought a second hand car with ASM parts which are now starting to fail?

Thanks,

Oisin

I'm really wanting to pick up the 60 or 70, just a bit hesitant to get this rattle...

Unfortunately they've hit another delay... We've been waiting patiently for a while now too. Hang in there guys...

fyi, out the the 30+ exhausts that have been sold, there have only been reports of broken resonators from less than 3 people. Most cases we actually the exhaust hitting the rear lower subframe so PLEASE check that if you are hearing something.

its august 7th now.

Please keep in mind that we are merely ASM's sole distributor in the US, we are not ASM. Therefore, we have to pay for the cost of the resonators, cost of shipping, cost of repair, all out of our OWN pockets. ASM has no expressed warranty and is not covering any of the costs to repair exhausts in Japan or the US. They are aware of the issue but it is affecting only a tiny group of people so they are still working on a redesigned resonator and will be offering them to their customer in Japan for purchase. We will be offering this service to our loyal customers as a token of our appreciation. Details are to come because we still don't know what our costs will be.

At least GoTuning is trying to repair the exhausts they sold. My Amuse has rattled for years and their is absolutely no fix other than my paying a welder to hack it up and try to fab a repair.

That's standup service!

I would lean on ASM for a rebate/discount on future sales to help offset the costs.

So ASM doesn't care about past customers only potential. For the amount of money you spend on this exhaust I would have expected a little more.
