Default axial short shifter question

Im not sure if im in the right thread's but ill get moved ill figure it out from there but anyways.

i recently bought a axial short shifter from a fellow S2ki member, and i took apart my original shifter and did everything according to the direction from Ricks accessory's website.

At first it seemed all fine, loving it. But then when id get up into Vtec while being in 2nd 4th or 6th only, it makes a LOUD metal on metal sound. So i took it apart again and checked my work. and it seemed fine. So i went on test drive 2. and was fine till alittle more vtec abusing. Then the sound came back. Finally on try 3 i disassemble it again and wrapped some electrical tape around the base of the shifter its self up to about 3/4 way up , to reduce the noise.... Still gets that terrible noise.

Any ideas? i was thinking dremel out the retention plate hole alittle till it stops but i wanna be sure i dont have to modify anything to greatly or in a permanent way.

Help appreciated !

Sorry to say it, but that shifter is the biggest piece of junk ever. I owned one, it made tons of noice so I sold it.

Apparantly the bushing they supply with it needs to be updated. The newer models have the bushing and its supposed to make less noise, but I was so upset with the quality that I didnt even want to try the updated one out.

Your not alone man, theirs a whole thread dedicated to how much noise this thing makes.

LAME!. guess im just gonna dremel the thing out so that the shifter has more room to rattle around.

The short shifter has less mass so more tyranny noise is going to be transmitted through to the cabin.

The stock shifter is weighted in such a way to reduce/move the natural/ resonate frequency of the shifter to prevent noise in the audible range of hearing.

I have had one of the very first prototype shifter and have loved it ever since I have installed it despite the vibration problem.

I was in the first batch to purchase one and love mine. The sound vibration isn't that bad, for me anyway, where I still haven't bothered installing the fix for the sound.

i agree with you 110% but when im cruising and the loud ::TAPTAPTAPTAPTPATPAPTPATPAPTPATPAPTPATP:: is going on, kinda frustrates me...

i had an idea today to fix it... MugenRioS2k said that the reason why i get so much noise is becuase of the weight of the axial and the stock is drasticly different.... so my idea was... add weight!

maybe some metal rings around the shifter its self would help reduce noise?
