I wonder how many faulty exhuasts J's shipped. The sad part is that they provided no support to owners that had/have this problem at all(that I know of). In some markets this would tank a business.

I miss my J's 60rs a lot, was a great looking exhaust that sounded awesome and gave good gains. I too experienced the poor packing problem resulting in a rattle in my exhaust. I got to the point that I couldn't take it anymore and sold it but would have kept it for the life of the car had it not failed on me.

I agree with what was said, if you're paying a premium price for an item like this, it should come with better packing material. I turbo'd right as I was taking this exhaust off and put a 3" exhaust on the car for boost. Now I'm going back to all motor and considering a new exhaust but am afraid to consider the J's due to my past experience. I will most likely be going with the new T1R 70-EM limited ed. exhaust that evasive is offering.

What's causing the rattle problem isn't the packing...
--- the packing just slides around inside and allows the exterior to heat up more than necessary.

The rattle is coming from the perforated Ti center tube cracking --- then it rattles
---fact is that the J's actually has two full mufflers and the first one (that we all call the resonator) get so hot (plus the shock of being on a non-OEM suspension) that the small spaces between the perfs crack ---

I figure it's the cost of running a 9lbs exhaust

Basically Ti is prone to breakage... As my welder said, if you don't want your Ti muffler to break, get a stainless one

And he makes custom Ti headers and exhaust for a living....

Anyway, He said that -- overall -- he was very impressed w/ the quality of the J's piece -- especially for a non-custom exhaust --- his comment was that the glasspack could have been better wrapped...

SO --- can we stop the J's baiting?

Well J's should have officially disclosed the problem and since they were able to fix it, remove the defective items from the market and provide support for owners that were affected. These are basic responses from any marketing class. The least they could do was disclaim the fact that Ti is prone to issues. Im not saying there quaility is below average but I own more J's parts than most people here and I feel let down.

As far as titanium exhausts, I'd just stay away from resonators period.
im sorry i cant hear you above my 120db exhaust.

in all seriousness sound tolerance is subjective, and my baby ears cant take it anymore. years of running a MK1 MR2 with a blacktop 4AG with ITB's and a loud exhaust just did it for me.

the entire inside of the exhaust is made with titanium baffles to help sound suppression as well as packing... inside both the resonator and the muffler. J's is not the only ti exhaust to suffer from rattling titanium brittleness(sp?). the amuse and my trust ti single can be added to the list. i have yet to hear of a titanium ASM rattling as they are also resonated...
