Thumbs down 1st Gear Trouble

I posted this in under the hood recently, and I am posting it here to try and get as much feed back as possible. MOst of you know I am new to the s2k community, so I got my first big question. I just recently bought my s2k. Its a 2003, and I bought it with 25,000 miles. Sometimes when I get on it in 1st gear, its as if it pops out of gear around 6k and over revs. Any ideas? It doesnt happen very often, probably 5 or 6 times. I don't run the car to death, but a few times when I run the car hard it has done this. Any ideas?

Is it actually popping out? Or does it feel like it? If it only feels this way, you may just be hitting the rev limiter if the engine is not warm. The ECU will not allow you into VTEC if if the engine has not been brought up to temperature.

I think this could be the case, I was thinking about two instances where it happened to me in the same spot leaving work. The engine did not have that much time to warm up. This could very well be the case, given everytime it does seem to pop out is at VTEC. Thanks for the info Aaron, I'll get back to you and keep a look out for this!

The '04+ trannys have a known issue where it pops out of first gear, but its normally at a very low RPM (like right as you're taking off). And it actually pops out so the car is in neutral. Happens to me.

So far I've asked in several forums and I believe you are correct. Thanks so much.

This is great news, I can't have any problems before I head down to school again.

If you have your owner's manual, please read it. It contains a lot of useful information about your car.

yup.. happens to me as well.. there was some discussion in the uk forum about this. one guy had his whole transmission replaced.
i don't think that would solve the problem though... just need to make sure it's properly engaged......the sound it makes is unmistakable.... that *bang* sound makes you cringe..
