Yea, even cheap racing adds up.

Cage $1200
seat $400
steering wheel/QR $150
nets/cutoff switch etc $400
fire suppression $500
harness $150

New wheels/tires/rotors/pads/brake lines/strut tops/suspension parts etc.

New engine.

New transmission.
Is that the short list? I've been wondering about this myself because I would like to have team or join a team.

How did this factor into your $500 limit? Was the car "revalued" by the lemons organizers after the engine blew up?

How much did the new engine/trans end up costing?
We got the car valued at $200 after we blew our engine by Lemons.

New engine cost $125

We have not got a new transmission yet, but we currently do not have 2nd or 3rd gears.

We have one of the slower cars so no one is really worried about our car.

That is a crazy cheap engine! I'm impressed.

I could see that being a problem

96 volvo engines with 150k miles are not really expensive. But it does take time to pull the new engine, pull the old, broken engine and then reinstall the "new" engine.

There are lots of parts that are not included in the 500. Basically safety brakes tires and any other obvious parts that are required for the safe functioning of the car are not included in the 500.

and you can bribe the judges, which we do even though we really don't need to.

When we build our 14:1 compression race engine and add the LSD, then we'll have to dial up the bribes a bit :-).

Just kidding. 13:1 would be more than enough.

I agree, no one races as a investment. It's just living life to the fullest.

It was a pile o fun that is for sure.

There is no rationalizing the evaporation of one's bank account in this manner, so its best not to think of the price or pricelessness of it.
