That looks like a classic error. He would have been OK but for the fact that he tried to come back onto the track. It looks like he had plenty of room to ride it out.

my 2 cents.
This^^^

Instructor should have grabbed the wheel so that the Miata continued alongside the track. Pulling back in front of traffic after you go off is a stupid move.

Do any of you have your seats bolted directly to the floor? If so, how do you bolt in the sub belts? I will most likely be going with a 5-point harness and not a 6-point if that matters.

Lou, come on, you've attended the BSR FATT instructor clinic. Grab that freakin' wheel!

Piper welded in 2 eyelets for my 6-point sub belts. Others have simply bolted in an eyelet(s). I highly recommend you go with a 6-point, they are much more comfortable and much less likely to bust a nut in a crash. Seriously. The more reclined the driving position the more important it becomes. I've tried other belts but the Scroths are a great value and I really like having the buckle on the sub belts.

Where do you put the eyelets? The guys at OG Racing said that most people with the aluminum seat I am getting just set it on the floor, drill four holes through the seat and floor, then bolt it down. I am not sure where the belts would go if there is no room between the seat and floor. I have seen the eyelets welded in before and it is a sweet setup. I'm just not sure if I will have anywhere to put it.

You should have an inch or so between the bottom of the seat and floor pan. They should be connected to the floor pan just behind the hole in the seat at least a few inches but not all the way to the back. I think when you set the seat in the car you will find that the mount will have it slightly tilted back giving you the space you need.
