2012 Track Junkie Thread #2
Hey Pete, I'd like to try your seat out at some point during one of the weekends. Let me know when I can come bother you.
So I went to Summit main on the 12/08 weekend and tested out the new setup. The "new" in the car is: 255/225 star specs, StopTech BBK with XP10, alignment, engine mounts. I had a blast and was sliding all over the place, this time in the seat
(I has oem seats in the car) This is why I'm seriously looking into a good pair of seats next.
Still have to play around with the datalogger, need to relocate the infrared led that is used to video/data syncing, and need to connect RPM singnal (anyone has any experience with that on s2k? whats the easiest way?)
Regardless, there are links to pics and a video below. My fastest lap was 1:34, with fastest theoretical 1:32 (fastest sector times together). I was not going all out because of the stock seats...hopefully with new seats I can dip into high twentys.
At the end of the video you'll see a miata guy spin because of missing the apex....most likely was looking at me in the mirror.

The group was intermediate, didn't feel comfortable going in advanced with oem seats. I'm not sure why there was no brake markers, maybe because it was relatively small event, they didn't bother with them.

After the holidays are over would probably work best.
You mean 1:24 with a fasted theoretical of 1:22 right?

Who was your instructor?
At the end of the video you'll see a miata guy spin because of missing the apex....most likely was looking at me in the mirror.
I had a video of a race start where the car in front of me dropped his left rear wheel off of the pavement, then careened out of control a second later when he pulled back onto the track. He spun right and almost collected the car to his right, but then spun left back into may path. I drove off track to avoid. After the race I find the guy and offered to show him the video. He didn't want to be bothered to see it, but I pushed him a bit, asking him to explain how he spun. He didn't have any real answer. I told him he had gone off track and that he spun when he tried to come back on. He didn't believe me at all! I convinced him, finally, to view the video. In the end, we both learned a lesson.
Later in the season, I had my own two wheel off track excursion at the same spot. The dirt was about 4 inches below the pavement and I was bottoming out all the way along the exit curbing. I forced myself to ride it out, slowing as I did. Even then, when I finally did pull back on track, I could feel the car wanting to pull around as all 4 wheels made contact with pavement.
The guy in the Miata and Olegator were both lucky. The Miata could easily have come back across the track and collected the Olegator. There are several lessons to be learned from the video, but the crucial one is that the guy in the Miata should have ridden out his mistake.
my 2 cents.
