2013 Track Junkie Thread
Nice!! Ah, it's your birthday though, right?
I have brought the (ex) girlfriend to an event before...it is fairly boring ha...she was griping a lot. They can sit in the classroom no problem, but other than that there is a lot of just "hanging out", which is fine if you've been driving because you need time to chill. Of course, weather makes a difference too...Sunday was cold and rainy and one guy's girlfriend looked pretty unhappy. He actually ended up skipping his last session. So all in all, if she has girlfriends it's prob best for her to make a spa day or something.
I'll PM you my number...I have a guy (yeaitsahonda) who can do your alignment, he did mine. I have run HP+ for all my track days (on second set now) and they have held up...more experienced guys go with a more aggressive compound. I also sell parts (http://www.performancerush.com)...if you want pads, let me know.

Maybe she'll come out on Sunday, good to know she'll be allowed to sit in the classroom also, maybe I can have a 1 woman pit crew.
Regarding pads.. it seems like some folks like the carbotech xp10 in the front and XP8 in the rear. I'll look into the Hawks. I'm thinking alignment, replacing the brake fluid, and probably track pads and I should be ok for the day. Can't be too safe when it comes to brakes imo. If you have someone you recommend for an alignment shoot me their info.
Regarding an alignment, for a primarily street driven car is OEM the way to go? Thanks again.
You can take your wife with you....she can get a couple of rides from instructors or advanced people...that should keep her busy.
If you are doing 2 day event then race pads, new fluid, and alignment is a must. Make sure to bring some extra oil with you as well....keep an eye on your oil level through the event.

A lot of guys run the Carbotechs, but I don't think you need that aggressive of pads yet...up to you I suppose. When I did my first 5 weekends on stock wheels, I just had a stock alignment, and I was fine.
I've used carbotech pads on several different track cars and have always been pleased. I would recommend swapping them back and forth for the track though. They're very noisey on the street.
Think hyperfest will be my first event this year. Gotta finish up the bushing replacements and get it aligned.

Ohh that's tricky. Take her out for a nice dinner on Thursday or what not (you'll want to go to bed early Friday). A pit crew would be nice, as long as she's down with that haha.

Thanks for the tips Olegator, I'll definitely bring a couple quarts of oil and check things after each session. I'd guess coolant/oil overheating shouldn't really be a concern as it's not THAT hot *knock on wood* this time of year, and only if you're really pushing the car..?
We had 3 S2000s in H1 this weekend. On Sat a total of 6 starters which is pretty good.
S2000s took P1, 2, and 3 at the end of the race which has to be a NASA first. JFO won, I got 2nd, and Peter (don't know his name thing on this website) got 3rd (in his first day at Summit I will add).
On sunday, the rain racing was pretty hairy. It was only the 3 S2000s as the FWD guys either broke or wussed out. Peter won, me 2nd, JFO 3rd. Peter qualified 2nd and stomped JFO who had no wipers (in the pouring rain). I "could" have passed for the win in T10, as I was running 5 secs a lap faster (I know the track, he doesn't) but didn't want to risk my car and Peters. Ended up going straight off in T1 after trying to outbrake someone and took the access road. Turned around and got back on about 45 secs later. Overall racing in the rain is actually kind of fun, but frightening. It FORCES you to become a better driver real fast. I had a stick to wipe the fog off my windshield, but it was covered with wax or oil and totally made a mess of visibility.
Going 110 in the rain 100ft behind several cars throwing spray and having a fogged up windshield is one of the more dangerous things I have done in a while. I hope my wife isn't reading this....
