I don't think you need dedicated rotors for the track (I never swapped mine), I just swap pads before/after events. The Hawks had no problems bedding in the night before. I avoided Carbotechs because some folks seemed to have issues with them being anal about needing to be bed in..? Either way, then it just comes down to cost vs performance. I'm not sure how the PMU's compare but Hawk also has a DTC30 that is one step below the DTC60's (and might be a little cheaper). Me personally, I just ran the cheapest blanks I could find. I don't know if there's a big difference between the different brands. I think I just bought em online for ~$30 a pop if I recall correctly. I don't know if the more expensive rotors are worth it.

Also wondering about the trackdaze open events - I was only going with them in my novice days, though they did solo me. Ran intermediate with NASA my last couple events, so I wasn't sure if they'd keep me from signing up for one of those since I never did it through them.
You can always just email them and see what they say. I have relatively limited experience as well (only done about 14 days I think) but have run solo intermediate with them so I should be ok.

Glad to see you back duff. Was wondering where you went off to. I agree that rotors are a waste of money. I've never cracked one or anything.

I am harder on brakes then most. I crack rotors and burn though pads like butter. Those stop tech wouldn't last me a day on the stock calipers, but I am running 255/255 with sticky tires.

I really hope to get back to the track this year for sure, but I still have lots of prep to do and can't decide what to do about a roll bar. Pretty positive I won't be ready for April.

Dominion looks cool, but trying to get down 95 to get there on a weekday during rush hour would be pretty much impossible for me. :-/ I do wonder how strict they are about roll bars though.

Join the Stoptech BBK club. You and Dan convinced me that the OEM brakes up front are just too small for a square setup, and it's nice not having to think/worry about the brakes. They really do "pay for themself" over time if you go through a set of carbotechs in a weekend.

All good, I'm hoping to goto a handful of events this year so hopefully I'll catch you out there this year. Just put the rollbar in and don't think about it. I won't make the Shenandoah Trackdaze May event this year, as it falls on my wife's b-day, and I figure it's worth the brownie points to not go this year. It looks like NASA has several events at Dominion this year, so hopefully you can make it out to one. I know Dave will be doing more HPDE's this year (and instructing) so hopefully we can get a good number of folks out again.

You put the CR up for sale yet? To get to Dominion on a weekday shouldn't be horrible honestly, just because you'd probably have to leave a little before rush hour to get there by around what 730 or so..? Once you get past Tysons there should be no traffic going south. If you're really worried about traffic you're welcome to crash the night before at my place since I'm just south of Tysons and shouldn't see traffic going south.

per their rules site, the convertible rules are as follows:

All vehicles must provide factory original (or better) seats that are securely mounted, factory seat belts are acceptable. SFI or FIA rated belts are recommended. Vehicles must provide protection for driver and passenger in the event of a rollover within the following guidelines:

1. Hard top and targa-top vehicles are allowed.

2. Convertible vehicles operating with the factory rollover protection system are allowed. Factory rollover protection includes factory roll bars, pop up rollover protection, and reinforced a-pillars designed to provide rollover protection. Contact jack@tracknightinamerica.com with questions.

3. Other convertibles require either a factory hard top or a four-point roll bar. If a roll bar is used, it must meet the roll bar requirements found in the SCCA Time Trial Rules.

4. These are the standard Track Night in America guidelines but some tracks have different regulations. Be sure to also double check for any track specific requirements on the venue page for the facility at which you plan to participate: http://www.tracknightinamerica.com/tracks.
So I guess it's worth an emailto the organizers/track, but I do know it's at the track's discretion. Dominion doesn't have any track specific rules listed yet.

Fun anecdote - with a low enough seat, I saw a guy get allowed to go at NJMP a couple years ago because he passed the broomstick test.

Not to mention for Dominion the Track Night in America events all start at ~3ish in the afternoon, so you basically avoid rush hour.

NASA mid-a will be at summit main April 15-17th. I'm doing the instructor clinic and tt/instructing that weekend. So hit me up if you guys go because I might be able to be your instructor! I also second the move to stoptech BBK. They're awesome, and its nice not cracking rotors every weekend.

I was thinking of doing that event, and still might. A friend has been itching to do an HPDE (he needs to pop his cherry) but the catch is he can only do 1 day and I guess NASA doesn't wait till closer to the date to open up 1 day registrations, so we'll see.
