2016 Track Junkie Thread!
I know this is probably the oldest question in the book, but I don't track enough to really warrant dedicated pads/rotors imo, hence the question on whether the PMu are worth the extra coin for another 100 degrees of capacity and hopefully a little bit more durability.
Also wondering about the trackdaze open events - I was only going with them in my novice days, though they did solo me. Ran intermediate with NASA my last couple events, so I wasn't sure if they'd keep me from signing up for one of those since I never did it through them.
I am harder on brakes then most. I crack rotors and burn though pads like butter. Those stop tech wouldn't last me a day on the stock calipers, but I am running 255/255 with sticky tires.
I really hope to get back to the track this year for sure, but I still have lots of prep to do and can't decide what to do about a roll bar. Pretty positive I won't be ready for April.
Dominion looks cool, but trying to get down 95 to get there on a weekday during rush hour would be pretty much impossible for me. :-/ I do wonder how strict they are about roll bars though.

You and Dan convinced me that the OEM brakes up front are just too small for a square setup, and it's nice not having to think/worry about the brakes. They really do "pay for themself" over time if you go through a set of carbotechs in a weekend.

I won't make the Shenandoah Trackdaze May event this year, as it falls on my wife's b-day, and I figure it's worth the brownie points to not go this year.
It looks like NASA has several events at Dominion this year, so hopefully you can make it out to one. I know Dave will be doing more HPDE's this year (and instructing) so hopefully we can get a good number of folks out again. You put the CR up for sale yet?
To get to Dominion on a weekday shouldn't be horrible honestly, just because you'd probably have to leave a little before rush hour to get there by around what 730 or so..? Once you get past Tysons there should be no traffic going south. If you're really worried about traffic you're welcome to crash the night before at my place since I'm just south of Tysons and shouldn't see traffic going south.
per their rules site, the convertible rules are as follows:
So I guess it's worth an emailto the organizers/track, but I do know it's at the track's discretion. Dominion doesn't have any track specific rules listed yet.
Fun anecdote - with a low enough seat, I saw a guy get allowed to go at NJMP a couple years ago because he passed the broomstick test.
All vehicles must provide factory original (or better) seats that are securely mounted, factory seat belts are acceptable. SFI or FIA rated belts are recommended. Vehicles must provide protection for driver and passenger in the event of a rollover within the following guidelines:
1. Hard top and targa-top vehicles are allowed.
2. Convertible vehicles operating with the factory rollover protection system are allowed. Factory rollover protection includes factory roll bars, pop up rollover protection, and reinforced a-pillars designed to provide rollover protection. Contact jack@tracknightinamerica.com with questions.
3. Other convertibles require either a factory hard top or a four-point roll bar. If a roll bar is used, it must meet the roll bar requirements found in the SCCA Time Trial Rules.
4. These are the standard Track Night in America guidelines but some tracks have different regulations. Be sure to also double check for any track specific requirements on the venue page for the facility at which you plan to participate: http://www.tracknightinamerica.com/tracks.

NASA mid-a will be at summit main April 15-17th. I'm doing the instructor clinic and tt/instructing that weekend. So hit me up if you guys go because I might be able to be your instructor! I also second the move to stoptech BBK. They're awesome, and its nice not cracking rotors every weekend.
