2016 Track Junkie Thread!
You're not far off mike haha. 2nd gear is a little worn anyways. Good thing I won't be using it anymore. Basically all my shift points go up one gear. I'll be able to finally use 6th gear at the track. Hardly touched that gear in 3 years.
2nd 45mph
3rd 65mph
4th 95mph
5th 120mph
6th 140mph
2nd 45mph
3rd 65mph
4th 95mph
5th 120mph
6th 140mph
I mean, the numbers are similar to what the gear below it use to be. So it might actually not be too bad. I will just be one gear higher everywhere. Also, I was watching one of robs old videos at summit main. He would shift into 6th around the time I shift into 5th with his shorter gear ratios. So if it works for him then I should be good.

Hey guys! Does anyone by chance have baffled oil pan laying around?

The j35 swap is near compete, only thing is gearing. The stock ap1 diff is still in and I will now have a 6700rpm redline. What do you guys think?
That's awesome! That thing is going to fly!
Stream of consciousness/random questions incoming:
Has anybody gone out for any of the SCCA Track Night in America events? I was looking at the list and they have a fair number at Dominion this year, which I know is super close for most of us, plus the price is pretty cheap for the amount of track time all things considered (if you include the parade laps), especially with my military discount.
I was wondering if anybody had run with them last year and what your experiences were like? How's tech? Are they pretty rigid with the schedule, how are the novice/intermediate groups with no instructors, etc.
I'm just wondering because it's been almost 2 years since I've been on track (new baby last year), and it would be my first time at Dominion and NJMP Thunderbolt, though I don't think Dominion was even open last year, so it should be new to everyone.
On another note, I'm on the lookout for any single-day Summit Point events that aren't an arm and a leg like FATT is now, if anybody knows any good ones. The wife is ok with singles, but she won't let me get away with full weekend events anymore with a 1yo at home.
Also, final question on brakes-
For the amount of tracking I do (maybe 3-5 days depending on my schedule) I've been moderately happy with Stoptech Street Performance pads, but I was on AP1 wheels with RS-3s at the time. I moved to AP2s with Rivals when they went on closeout last spring but never got any track time on them so I don't have an opinion yet on how much braking might have improved. Would a move to a pad like the Project Mu HC+800 be worthwhile or should I just stick with the Stoptechs considering they cost almost double? If that's the case I might do the SoS rotors instead of blanks to try for some extra temperature control, since I've budgeted around $300 for everything.

Sorry I haven't done any SCCA track nights in America so can't comment.
Haha sorry to hear about your lack of track time. I can sympathize.
I'm seriously thinking of doing a Trackdaze event April 11th. It's on a Monday which may be better or not. It's easier for me to take a day off of work than go on the weekend. Anyone else interested in going? It's an "Open Track Day" which means plenty of track time.
Dominion didn't open last year, but should be open this year for sure. I'm looking forward to running some events there. Trackdaze has a single Open Track day on Aug 7th I'm thinking of doing as well, although I might try to do a NASA 2 day event beforehand as some instruction probably isn't a bad thing at a brand new track.
Regarding brakes.. what size AP2 tires are you using? I was running 225/255's on Dunlop Z2's before running a square setup and was having bad fade on Summit Main w/ HP+'s. I'm not sure how the Stoptech pads compare but I imagine they're similar, so I'd be very careful. I ran Hawk DTC60's f/r and they lasted me I think 5-6 days on a staggered tire setup with no fade.
It's definitely a struggle getting away from the munchkins..
Good to hear you're still alive and hopefully see you at the track one of these days.

So what track days are people trying to do this year? I think I'm gonna sign up for Trackdaze Summit Main event April 11th. Man, can't believe it's only a month away!
It's an Open track day, so no instructors and you need to be intermediate solo or higher I believe. Anyone interested in going as well? It falls on a Monday which works well for me. Anyone else interested?

Per Stoptech, the temp range goes up to 1300F on the pads, which is actually about 1-200 more than HP+. In my own experience when they get to the higher end of that they start to disappear fairly quickly, as well as get decently spongy. With AP1 sizes I was getting around 3-4 days a set on the fronts depending on the ambient temperature (not so much the PCA Summit Point event I ran a couple years back in 100 degree heat).
I know this is probably the oldest question in the book, but I don't track enough to really warrant dedicated pads/rotors imo, hence the question on whether the PMu are worth the extra coin for another 100 degrees of capacity and hopefully a little bit more durability.
The 20 minute sessions at TNIA will definitely help with heat though too, since I'm used to the closer to 30 minute ones with Trackdaze, NASA, and PCA.
Also wondering about the trackdaze open events - I was only going with them in my novice days, though they did solo me. Ran intermediate with NASA my last couple events, so I wasn't sure if they'd keep me from signing up for one of those since I never did it through them.
