I would say if you bought the car specifically to do track days to go ahead and buy the roll bar. Then you don't have to worry about what track you can go to and with what organizations.
2 - 3 track events a year is enough to warrant a roll bar install, instead of contacting every event organizer and track to ask clarification on stock roll hoops. Hard Dog bars can be installed by yourself, although I had Piper installed it for me. If you want a roll bar that can eventually scaled up to a full cage, just contact Piper and ask them to do a custom bar for you. If I were to get a cage done, Piper is the only place I'd go. Ask for Robbie or Mitch. Great guys doing excellent work.http://www.pipermotorsport.com/
Thanks for the recommendation FrostyWinters, would you mind sharing with me a ball park of the price you paid?
Talking about seats, I also had Piper install my Sparco seats in Jan. Piper fabricated custom seat bases and mounted the Sparco side mounts on them. The driver's side seat feels like it's about 1 to 1.5" lower than stock. If you go back a few pages you can see my car with the seats installed.
Quick question for everybody- my car is grinding slightly shifting to 4th whenever I have the car loaded in a slight right hand turn. There are two spots on this track where this happens. Kevin mentioned that his Ingalls torque damper thing would help this. In my effort to keep the car stock enough that my wife will still drive it everyday I really want to avoid putting aftermarket engine mounts in. I do need to check the stock mounts though. Any other opinions on the torque dampers?
If you wanted to keep it stock like for the street the ETD is a great option.
Sp0nger,
I'm on the upper side of 5'9" and fit with stock seats and a rockstar bar. I would definitely mention that it really depends on your torso length though and wearing a helmet I'm close. As for the install, I did the entire thing myself with the exception of my wife holding the top wrench in place while I tightened the bolts/nuts on the bottom.
As for seats, I upgraded to Corbeau FX-1 Pros a couple years ago on buddy club rails. If I did it again, I would pick something like the PCI regular or slider mounts. They will fit better and they have attachment points for your submarine straps so you don't have to drill the floorboard for them.
I will say nothing but good things about the Corbeaus though. The barely graze the door cards, aren't too wide for the interior at the base, are upholstered in good quality fabric, and hold great while still being wide enough for someone with a 36" waist (down to 34" now). If FIA certification isn't something you need, they're a great budget buy coming from a respected seat maker. Otherwise, get Pole Positions like everyone else - they fit the car and they fit most waists.

Hey Everyone,
Just bought my first s2000 a few months back (been a long time coming) and I have signed up for my first HPDE at VIR in May w/ NASA. I thought I would be good to go because NASA states the stock roll hoop on the s2000 is OK but I asked just to make sure and the response I got was that I would need to be 2" under the stock hoops. At 5'10" that is definitely not going to happen. After researching it looks like my only options are an after market seat to lower the siting position or getting a harddog roll bar. Can anyone who as run @ VIR w/ NASA elaborate with their experience on this issue? Are these my only options and what would you all recommend for someone who is just starting to get their feet wet? I hadn't planned on modifying the car until after a few events but I did buy this car specifically to get on the track as I would like to do 2-3 track days a year at tracks that are near me (VIR, Summit Point, Road Atlanta, etc)

Lightning is a very fun track. I know everybody loves VIR (for good reason) but I'd encourage any of you that gets the chance to head up to Jersey. I had a blast yesterday even in the wet. Today is going to be dry but the wind is nuts so I think driving today will be a little bit of a task.

If you're new to the track then that means you'll probably have an instructor ride along with you for a little while. In that case I'd say you can either Spring for the rollbar now (probably the wise thing), or wait till you've done enough events to be solo'd and not need an instructor. That's probably going to take a while and you'll be limited to only a few events. Since this is unlikely, the right thing to do is just suck it up and install a rollbar. Killing/hurting yourself is one thing, but someone else is a whole different level.

Unfortunately VIR is very picky about roll bars because it is such a high speed track. You could put an OEM hardtop on it and hope nobody checks, but if you are new and have an instructor they might say something. It sucks :-/
That's true, but I'd say it also depends.. I've seen some auto-x guys come out and flying around since they have seat time, just not on a road course. Push a little too hard and in the wrong spot someplace like VIR, and it could be ugly. Also depends on the personality, some people are more cautious while others are reckless..
