Hey everybody, i ran into a slight problem this morning.

A friend and i stripped out the heater core and everything under the dash. When i reconnected the battery, all the lights on the car instantly lit up. I did not even have the key in. When i disconnected the kill switch at the removable knob, it stopped flashing. And when i say everything lit up i mean Tail lights, head lights, dash, blinkers. Any ideas?
Hmm, no ideas. Youre car is probably junk now. Ill take it off your hands.

Do you have all of the grounds hooked back up? Cars do weird stuff if any of them get left off. What year is your car? I'll take a look at a wiring diagram.

Haha its a 2001. Billman said something about a battery circuit feeding the ignition circuit and that's why it does stuff without the key.

Thanks for the info. The car isn't a DD anymore but I will drive it a few times a week, especially with nice weather. I agree no way I'd drive a street car with harnesses on the street (you're too restrained), but I'm not planning on doing hans/harnesses till a little later and even then, I'm gonna keep the stock belts. I have enough track days under my belt now that I can run solo, so I'll probably just do one seat and harness.
Good plan. I have the swap down to a science now, it only takes me roughly 15 minutes including lugging the seats up from my basement. You do need a super long extension for your wrench to get at the rear seat bolts FYI. FWIW, I would use the eye bolts in the floor and transmission tunnel, but definitely those bendy connectors Schroth sells for the outboard strap. I end up leaving the shoulder and crotch straps in full time, and only take the waist one out with the seat.

I don't mind doing 2 seats personally, but that's because I like them to match.

I'd also add, if you're looking for a seat belt extender to run the factory belts in a bucket seat, the rear buckle from a late 90s eclipse will take our male tab and is long enough to go through the waist-belt slots. I found one at a junk yard for something like $5 and used that before I got harnesses.

Oh cool, I didn't realize it was that easy to swap seats in and out. Do the stock seats work with the after market rails so your just unbolting the seat or are you taking out the rails each time too?

So looks like I won't make it on Monday, which sucks. Duffman, have you done a Track night in America before? The May 10th event at Dominion looks interesting. Thinking of signing up.. Anyone else interested? Looks like you can take a half day off of work and make it..

sp0nger-

Each set of seats has their own rails, the stock on OE and the aftermarket on Buddy Clubs in my case, you keep them attached full time. It's just 4 bolts at the corners for each set of rails, swap the seats, clip in and route the harness straps, and bolt down the aftermarket seat.

SlowTeg-

I'm feeling the May 10th event as well. I haven't done TNIA before, but it's very well reviewed so I'm more than likely going to give it a shot. I am thinking running novice my first time out since it's been 2 years since my last track day, plus it's a new track I've never been to before. The half day thing is a big selling point to me.

I'm also considering the April 27th NJMP one since it's Thunderbolt and I haven't ran that one before.

True, but how much you actually need a roll bar for beginner HPDE in a stock car is debatable, but shrug.
That's true, but I'd say it also depends.. I've seen some auto-x guys come out and flying around since they have seat time, just not on a road course. Push a little too hard and in the wrong spot someplace like VIR, and it could be ugly. Also depends on the personality, some people are more cautious while others are reckless..
My last VIR day in the intermediate group we lost a newish STI on the back straight into the woods during a red flag drill. Bad things happen when you screw up at 120.

The driver was OK, which was good, but he stole my last 10 minutes of track time for the day with that incident , since we were skipping session 4 to drive home (went with the wife).

I just told the wife and got the green light so I'll probably sign up for it this weekend. Personally I wouldn't run novice if I were you. It's like riding a bike, not like you forget, and I'm pretty sure a friend of mine will be going who has zero hpde experience so u don't want to be stuck behind him. It'll be a new track for everyone since it just opens this year so don't worry about it. Ya, the half day thing is great since it isn't a far away track. For a farther track, I don't know if I'd be willing to make the drive, like to NJMP.. It's definitely not a bad option though.
