Default Got a Ticket

i was in virginia last weekend and got a speeding ticket on route 28. the Pig charged me with reckless driving...doing 82 mi/h in a 55 mi zone. i was told that i cant make a prepayment and need to be in court on 12-15-2006. i was speeding but not over 80 mi/hr. i really dont know much about virginia traffic laws..hoping someone could help me with this issue. i really dont want to go back there just to be in court. dont mind to pay the ticket.
if founf guilty...what do i do next??? pay the ticket? do i have to go to any traffic school????
should i plead not guilty?
if someone could walk me through this i would appreciate very much..
FYI...i have a clean california driving record.

First, check the attitude. Hire a lawyer. Do as he says.

20mph over the posted speed limit is also considered reckless. so if you were going 75mph, the cop is within his rights to bust you on it.

i was being very polite with him..asking him if i could just pay for the ticket...not that i dont want to appear in court its just too far for me. i was just on my way to the airport trying to make the 6 oclock flight.
i know was speeding but not over 80mi.. maybe 65-75...also, my wife is one month pregnant..i wouldnt do such a thing.

which county did you get ticket in? if it's fairfax, you're screwed and you'll definately need a lawyer. If you have a good record and get your speedometer calibrated (hopefully it's off about 3 or 4mph), your lawyer might be able to talk with the police officer & procecutor for lesser charge. They will not deal with you directly. This is just for fairfax county. Other counties in VA are more lenient.

Call around for local attorneys or see if someone on here has someone they can refer you to. I don't live in Northern VA, so I don't know anyone you can call up there. As far as moving your court date, you'll have to request a continuance or have your lawyer do it if you hire one. Usually the first time a case is on the docket, your request to continue will be granted if it's for a decently good reason. If you're convicted, you have to do whatever the judge orders. If you don't like what (s)he orders, you can appeal to the circuit court as I said above. You'll have 10 days from your conviction date to appeal.
