It's always a great event when no one gets hurt or cars get beaten up. You should have came Jeff.
Fine... I won't show up anymore.

That's okay, Skip... I like having someone to point and laugh at.

It was good to see Calvin, Mani (for a few minutes) and JFO. George was always out and about and Rob, I didn't know you were over at Jefferson.

That place was really packed! I was only there for about three hours, but that was enough to see I need to be there next year with a camper of some sort. What a party.

Sorry to hear about JFO's car, he was pretty pumped about that race.

Mani, do you have any video of your non-event? I would love hear (I mean see) it

Well...here's the adventure as I remember...

The Ferrari and I both got point-bys exiting 9. He was in front of me as he goes into 10. Exiting 10, I have closed up the gap and less than 2 car lengths back. As you can expect, he pulls way away from me on the front straight. By the time he gets to turn 1, he has 3 to 4 cars in front of him and all of them slowing way down than required

Me, still excited and having another opportunity to close the gap on the Ferrari, carried way too much speed to the brake markers. Realizing that the cars in front and the Ferrari being last in line have slowed down quite a bit more and estimating that it was going to get really close if I stayed in line while braking, I went into a serious self-preservation mode, made an evasive change of direction to the right under braking. Brakes locked up. The speedy-dry that was off-line to dry some fluids from the session before didn't help either leading to more sliding. At this point, if I stayed on track, I was going to t-bone one of the cars going thru turns 1-2, so, more evasive right onto the grass and little more loss of traction later came to a complete stop almost perpendicular to the track between turns 1-2 with front left tire barely on the track. As I come to a complete stop, I see the Ferrari going by about a few feet away.

Lesson learnt : There was nothing I was going to gain by closing the gap going into turn 1. The next passing zone was between 2 and 3 and the Ferrari wasn't going to pass all the 3 or 4 cars and I'm sure I would've gotten right behind him again thru the tight section.

Given the situation, I think I did the best I can. The lesson learnt will hopefully help me from getting into a situation like that in the future.

That's the beauty of HPDE3. Passing any where with a point-by. Downloading a couple of clips on youtube....
