Or to sit in the gravel pit before the Dragon and here over 100 S2000's with different aftermarket exhausts take off

Or to drive through a tunnel with a group of non-stock S2000's. Or to follow a better driver than yourself and be able to know when to stay on and let off the gas because you can hear what he/she is doing ahead of you. I can go on and on.

The only thing going against the aftermarket exhaust on a S2000 is the $50 ticket that doesn't even go on my driving record, so big whooping deal

tizbad2k - don't take my posts as a personal calling out or attack on you. I'm simply standing up for being on the wrong side of the law

Just reading you write about those scenarios made me bust a nut!!!

Oh mannn!!! I HAVEEEE to go to the Dragon!!!

And with regards to having a modded exhuast... Yes the S2K is a unique car, but its exhuast system... how unique is that? EVERY other S2000 has it, and to the average joe, it sounds pretty much the same as another cars...

So why not be more unique and make your car sound like absolute SEX... BTW, I LOVE how the S2000 sounds with an exhuast... its just so racy... esp with its never ending redline the sound just keeps going and going... Oh mannn DAMN IT man, now I have to go drive

How about we take the debate another direction? This could be fun....

1 Header = 1 exhaust pipe

Headers = Dual Exhaust

The S2000 only has 1 header

Hmm...

Well wouldn't it be proper to say that the S2000 technically has 1 exhuast...cuz of the whole header argument, and since it has one header, it has only one pipe coming that splits... so it only has 2 canisters, not dual exhuast...

Funny thing modded exhaust...

The standing joke around my house is

You bought another Exhaust????

So far I have modded the Harley, VFR, Dodge Ram

I really want to get another Invidia for the S.... I love that sound

We get our just deserts.

Also I looked up the law for motorcycles in VA, there are no exhaust restrictions

I have a feeling too that when they see our cars and something is illegal (exhaust, front plate) they say if they can afford that car then they can afford this ticket i'm about to write them (easy kill)

It very much depends on the judge, certain judges are consistently hard on certain crimes, and other judges are consitently hard on certain other crimes.

But also getting back to the point of this thread, which is about illegality of exhausts, the S2000 responds weakly to breather mods, the car is already highly tuned from the factory, the most hp/litre of any production engine, with millions of dollars poured into research, and you think that you can make abig difference by adding some headers or exhaust? The biggest difference from an aftermarket exhaust is the noise, and thats what attracts cops.

But to quote my friend "an exhaust is a signature mod" and its often the first thing that people do to their cars, because it makes them feel like they are unique. I say that driving an s2000 makes you unique, dont waste your money and potentially lose you license because you wanted to make more noise.

Dont you think the stock S sounds beautiful anyways? I do.
Please don't take this as a personal attack, but I could not disagree more with your statement about exhaust mods being "useless."

While it is true that they do not net you large power gains, they do add a couple of ponies, but many times that isn't the reason people modify the exhaust.

I have a PowerHouse Amuse R1 Titan Extra and its on the car for three reasons:

1. I like the sound
2. I like the look
3. I wanted the extra couple of hp

but the overriding factor for why the exhaust is on the car is:

4. It saves me a ton of weight!

Many people seem to overlook that last fact. You are correct that without very invasive and "high impact" modifications this engine is hard to grab power from. So where does that leave you in your quest ot build a better version of the car? Save weight and improve the car's footwork.

Long story short power isn't the only reason people want to put exhausts on the S, some do it for aesthetics, some for weight savings, some for both.

It's the same problem as those that criticize the purchase of a carbon hood because its not that much lighter than the aluminum stock overlooking the aerodynamic and cooling benefits of the vented aftermarket carbon hoods

Just mah $0.02

to tell you the truth i forgot about the weight advantage, thats actually a pretty big thing when it comes down to it, it helps in not only in acceleration but also in braking.

Here we go:

Header= 1 manifold- for inline engines.
Headers= 2 ( or more? ) manifolds- for V- engines or maybe inline eight-cylinder engines Anything where two anifolds are coming off of the head(s)

Now to stir the pot:

If you only have one exhaust mainfold you only need one muffler. Two mufflers is overkill

If you have two exhaust manifolds (or headers) then two mufflers are okay.

Soooo, anyone having two mufflers sprouting off of one exhaust is doing it wrong
