[QUOTE=1AP12NV,May 25 2005, 02:15 PM] At the risk of actually having something on topic to say... not all of the information has been explored.

Ok after re-reading my post, I dont think i properly explained what I wanted...

What I mean to say is that if you get a ticket for your exhuast, and you go to court, the judge will ask did you get it fixed bla bla... now if you say that my exhuast isn't illegal, the judge will be like yes it is illegal, it's aftermarket, you changed it from stock. They'll say this most likely because probably 99% of after market exhuasts for a car are louder than stock, and since theyve seen, heard, and dealt with these exhuast, they'll just stereotype you and your exhuast as being the same and therefore illegal in their minds.

In order for you to convince them that it is not louder or that it's legal, it will take a lot of time and effort... And the judge isnt going to walk outside with you to your car to hear your exhuast or request that someone bring a decible guage/meter to check YOUR exhuast. The offence is too small to go through all of that hassle. They would see it as a waste of time.

So unless you get a judge thats willing to let you PROPERLY proove that its legal, you're pretty much out of luck

if that's true in practice, that sucks. whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"

I knew of people that had VERY quiet aftermarket exhuasts...I would like to say they were as quiet as a stock car, but I can't be sure so I won't... but anyways, they got a ticket for exhuast, tried to fight it, and no luck...

I've also seen how a few different judges have dealt with exhuast tickets in court... They're VERY fast about it, don't even try to let the defendant say everything they want and its over...

i don't think there is any way to get out of it. i know of 2 people (1 turbo teg and 1 92-5 turbo hatch) the teg had a exhaust but he painted it black and the hatch's muffler looks like a stock muffler but its a straight through 3" exhaust. very sleeper
