Default MD Diff/Tranny Oil Change Mini Tech Session 9/18

The detailing session went so well I thought I'd try to do a mini "Tech" Session in preparation for Fall Colors. The Mini Tech day will be held at my house on 9/18 from 9am to whenever we get done. I'll post directions closer to the date.

Based upon what I've read in the Under the Hood Forum it sounds like we should change the oil in our Differentials and Transmissions on a regular basis. I thought I'd do mine before we go to Fall Colors and figured I'd see if anyone wanted to do their's as well.

First - I've never changed the Tranny or Differential oil in an SA2000, but have done it in other cars. I have the S2000 shop manual and it doesn't look to be anything out of the ordinary.

I have a floor jack and some jack stands along with a big syringe thingy that should easily put the new oil back where it belongs (and not all over the floor). This shouldn't take near as long to do as the polishing did so we should be able to do a bunch of them. We could even do two at a time if someone brings some additional jack stands.

Hardtopguy.com has offered free shipping and a great deal on LE-607 ($10.00qt ) and Honda MTF $3.15qt along with the washers. I am willing to make the buy for the group, let me know if you are interested and the quantity desired. The cut off date will be Tuesday, September 7 for me to make the buy for you.

We will also be doing brake and perhaps clutch fluid flushing. I have a power bleeder so that should make things go relatively quickly - even more so if we all use the same kind of fluid.

A couple of folks also expressed an interest in coolant changes. The only caveat here if you change your coolant I'll need you to take your old coolant with you - I think I might have trouble getting rid of gallons and gallons of the stuff.

You'll need

Oil for the tranny and differential - remember they are different - check the oil journals for more info. Best info I have indicates about a quart for the differential and almost two quarts for the tranny.

Washers for the tranny and differential. Once again, let me know if you want me to order them. It will probably seal with the old washers, but they are only a buck each so I'd reccomend replacing them.

Coolant and maybe flushing stuff.

If we get a bunch of people I may need some help getting rid of the used oil. I'll try to save some old milk jugs, but I don't know how much oil the auto parts store will take from one person.

I'd love to get this done...my dealer flat out refused to put in the LE diff oil for some reason, so it is still sitting in the garage. Let me know when and I will be there.

I'll be there.. just tell me what to bring and i'll get it before hand. Oh and a word of advice for all you lowered S2000's.. John's driveway has a huge incline... better be good at going up angled and steep driveways!.. other than that.. a most gracious host!
