Default Quandry: Sell or keep PS3?

I just looked at ebay and saw that the same pre-order that I have is going for stupid amounts of money. If I only sold it for double($1400 is looking pretty common), that $600 made could be split into two deposits for the children's savings accounts.

One of the limiting factors in the auction of pre-ordered PS3's is that you have to meet certain criteria- 50 sells/buys, no buy-it-now price, etc. I don't use ebay for anything. I know I won't be able to get another one until the summer, but damn, money made doesn't get any easier.

Do like me, and try to get more than 1 of them. Sell all but one. The ones you've sold will more than pay for the one you kept and some games, BluRay discs, and maybe some Christmas presents

Right now I have 4 pre-orders in, 2 are doubtful, 1 is definite, and 1 is 50/50. I'm planning on camping out next Thursday to try to get 1 more.

That wouldn't be an investment... more like burning money in the money pit!

Ryan, I don't have that kind of time. Originally I held off buying a BD player because I knew at some point we'd have a PS3, however, there is only one or two titles out right now that are must have in BD.

Jeff, I am leaning towards selling it, however, there are certain requirements to be able to sell the PS3 pre-order online. I guess I could wait until the system is in my hand, butfear that the hype will have dissipated or a bug wil present itself in the system. Kyle and I love the Tony Hawk games and he's been jonesin' for the NFS: Carbon.

What to do... what to do?

Ah i see, i wasn't aware that there were requirements. If you do wait till the system is in your hands you won't end up selling. They are probably worth as much as they will ever be right now.

There's one thing I saw with the XBOX 360s last year - The price went UP after it was released to the public. Couple of reasons for that - Some people think they'll be able to get one at launch by camping out, or because of some pre-order where they took way too many orders, like in the case of FYE. Also, some people are more willing to bid when you have the actual item in your hand. None of these pre-orders are guaranteed, so someone might be paying you money and you won't even get the PS3 on launch day.

Allocations have still not been set in stone by Sony from what district managers at many stores have said. So they honestly don't know how many they'll get on launch day.

If you're going to sell it, I think you'd be OK with selling it after launch.

BTW- It doesn't take too much time to get the online pre-orders if you have everything setup right. Camping out would require a lot of time, but if you manage to snag an online one, it should be nice and easy. Of course so far no major etailers have started selling PS3's online except for BestBuy which was a mistake, and GameStop which was also a mistake but GS is supposedly honoring their pre-orders.
