Default In search of a rebuilt engine

Hey all,

Long story short I was on the way back to Fairfax from Va. Beach yesterday after a great vacation. About 30 miles along 64 I start to hear a knocking sound coming from the engine, yet no lights or warnings showing on the dash. Called my dad who said to try to get it to a service station as it probably needed oil as I expected and on the way...boom... engine dead. My oil light never even so much as flickered so I had no way of knowing I was THAT low on oil. I'm new to the s2k and didn't realize that it burns through oil that quickly, at first I though it was just a failed oil pump. After 2 towtrucks, $500, and 12 hours I made it back to fairfax with the s being taken to my buddy's dealership at Arlington Honda. I know dealerships are always a big "no no" when it comes to repairs but this guy has been a family friend since I was in pre-school and has serviced my families Honda's for years now, always cutting good deals for us.

Got a call from him this morning saying that it would need a new motor, he was going to call around to try and find one since a new one would be $10,000 (more than kbb and more than I can afford right now). I'm joining the search as well now and was seeing if anyone here could point me in the right direction as to where I could find one, or if you guys knew of one that is available. Thank you in advance for any help, I really appreciate it!!!!

Check with a member by the name of davgoat. My buddy just had the same thing happen to him and bought an ap2 motor and several interior pieces from him. He packaged everything extremely well and shipped ridiculously fast.

Your best bet for price is going to be finding a low/lower mileage engine from a totaled/salvage S2000. I know that Jasper does NOT offer a rebuilt engine for the S2000 so I'm not sure who would offer one. The shop I work for is a Japser certified installer and I called them as soon as I saw this thread, and as I said they don't even offer an option for the S2000. For a used AP1 motor you're looking at $2000-$3000 depending on mileage, then Labor for installation.

Sorry to hear the news. How many miles were on your motor?

There isa member selling his AP2 motor/trans in the Mid-A F/S section. It know its not a F20C but its worth the shot.

Looks like your best local option. You can sell off your transmission to recoup some money too.

Thank you guys for your help!!!! It really means a lot to me. I'll def. be getting in contact with Steven who posted that FS thread. I just wanted to confirm that an AP2 will still fit ok into an AP1 body? That one had really low mileage (I was at 92,xxx and had bought it with 90,xxx) so it would be like getting an almost new engine altogether which would be great.

Thanks again, and I will keep you guys posted!

Same problem just happened to me with the civic, minus the boom part.

It will, but you'll need an AP2 ecu (you don't strictly need one, it'll run on an AP1 ecu, but for things like a correct rev-limiter, you should get the right ecu).

To mate the AP2 engine to the AP1 transmission you need some part. I don't remember what exactly. It's simple though, IIRC.

I don't know if the AP2 ecu will work with the AP1 gauge cluster, thats something you should look into.

I think you're better off looking around for an AP1 engine, though if this is your only car, I understand the hurry.

Also, I'm curious, exactly how low on oil did you get? I'm surprised the oil light never came on. It seems like you'd likely be in a low oil pressure situation to do that much damage.
