Default Stereo Upgrade

I know this subject has been discussed before but I was interested to see if anyone had any new advice on what the best, SIMPLE set up that could get decent sound? Also any local installers you have input on is much appreciated as well...

Thanks
Jerrianna

Have one for sale... w/ or w/o sub(brand new).

sweetj- Do you play MP3's? Easy is a head unit, amp, and speaker upgrades. Not always cheap, but relatively easy.

good question mgiang,
The lucid rear speakers are good if your basicaly happy with the system as is, but want more volume and clarity i.e can hear the music when the top is down.

Maybe it's been too long since I upgraded my door speakers and head unit, but I never remember having a problem getting sound out of my stock setup, at speed, with the top down.

However, decent speakers (~$100, non-component for those of us who have the older S) and a decent mp3cd head unit + adapter (~$250) are simple and produce improved sound. Want a sub? Toss in $200 for a basic amp, $50 for a wiring kit, $300 for a sub+enclosure. Oh, and installation? Not a hard job, but tedious.

You want dash controls to work? Lucid rear speakers? Bigger bass? There are all kinds of options from here... This is all "basic" stuff. Nothing too fancy, but will give you a good sound. It may, however, lead to addiction and upgrade-itis.

Thanks guys. I would also agree that I have no problems hearing the music with the top down...but I would like better quality and some bass. Some of the music I listen to needs that and just sucks in my current stock set up.

I guess I'm just trying the find out how to get the best bang for the buck... I don't want obnoxious bass just enough so if I want to crank up some rap it sounds good and the speakers aren't distorting...

I know everyone has a different opinion of what is the best so it is hard to ask for help...b/c everyone has their own 2 cents but me with no experience in this field has really no clue where to start.

My husband would be able to do the install. So I've got that covered. I also don't want to have to cut anything if I don't have to. I have a friend that wants to sell me his Alpine CDA-7995, for a pretty good price....any comments? So from there I guess I'm looking at new door speakers up front and an amp. Anything else you can suggest? Would anyone suggest MB Quart for the door or any ohter cheaper routes?

Thanks J

Dont go "cheap" on the speakers J, you already have those in the door now. The OEMS are crap wizzers cones. No sense replacing them with the same level of quality. You would be better of just replacing the head unit if thats the case.

Well I am pretty sure of replacing the head unit with that alpine. Are MB quart speakers any good?
