White vs Amber Signal legalities
In Maryland, the law states that turn signals have to be "white or amber lights, or any shade of color between white and amber." So cleared corners with white bulbs should be fine. If you're concerned, you could carry around a printout of the code

In Virginia, some have said that clear/white signals are illegal, however we haven't been able to find anything in VA code pertaining to signal color... You're welcome to look or provide a definitive answer.

I couldn't find anything in the DC code pertaining to any sort of lighting.
Anyone? Bueller?

The other thing is that if you are in VA and your car is registered in MD, they can't ticket you because you are abiding by the laws from the state in which your car is registered. They have no authority to ticket out of state cars on appearance.
