Default Winter is here. Wheel/Tire time...

In case you haven't noticed, they're calling for our first real dose of winter weather here in the DC area, starting tomorrow...

I posted this over in the TireRack forum, but thought I'd ask folks here since I love you all so very much

http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=167030

LM-22's and some "cheap" $115/ea wheels... ~$1050 shipped, ready to go on from TireRack.com... Any thoughts on this? Local options cheaper and/or better?

Thanks!

Ive looked around.. Tirerack was by far the cheapest.. Even if I ordered through the dealership the WHOLESALE prices .. FROM tirerack are only 11 dollors cheaper..

an alternate that's been suggested is to get some used stock wheels and put the tires on those... if anyone has an extra set...

what was your comparison, by the way?

thanks.

I checked called up atleast 15 or 20 different tire places around the DC/Baltimore area and they were all MUCH higher than Tire Rack.. When I check at the dealership I found out we have a wholesale account with TR so I looked up the prices ... NOT a huge difference...

I just purchased Continental ExtremeContact or something like that from Tirerack. Delivered price was about $350. I figured, why not get winter/all season tires on my current wheels and then upgrade to a bigger wheel/tires combo for the spring. I rather have the bigger look and performance for the spring/summer anyhow.

Good luck.

If you have membership wih Costco, get your tires changed there. I only paid $24 to change all 4 tires from all season to winter this past weekend. That included dismount, mount and balance.

btw, I did not buy the tires from Costco, it was just labor charge.

Guess what was waiting for me today?

They actually look pretty nice. I mean, they're painted and there are some very minor runs, but whatcha want for $115? The whole "centering ring" thing is a little disconcerting at first, but it's all good. Took them out for a little drive and considering they're not quite "broken in" yet, they did very well in the wet and responded great on the dry. Not T1S's, but mine are lookin' a little worn

Interesting where the wheel hits the hub - it's not a complete flush mount... but it should do...

Good stuff! Now I can't WAIT for some snow (as it warms up significantly outside).
