Default single men are the worst investors!

Before you get offended let me begin by saying that I am a single man. My investments professor read my class an article in the wall street journal that showed married women were the best investors, after adjusting for risk. This is due to the expenses single men incur from excessive trading. Married women on the other hand trade the least and pay the least in expenses. Single men give in to their ego and biased self attribution in hopes of performing some miracle speculation maneuver. It is also my belief that these same single men are the driving force behind load funds that offer poor performance and prey on unsophisticated investors.

When I first heard this statistic I felt like I had something to prove and if I had acted I would have fallen victim to the very reason that single men earn the lowest returns. Knowing your weaknesses will help you improve your returns and limit expenses. Dont invest in high expense funds and dont trade frequently unless you know something that nobody else does! (Jim Cramer stock tips are not a valid excuse for "knowing something special")

I couldnt find the original article but heres one that makes similar points:

Thoughts?

I'm not surprised given that the vast majority of single men don't have to consider the family responsibilities etc. that married people do.

More specifically, your future wife needs to get married.

In a similar vein, I heard a report a couple of months ago that hedge funds managed by women tend to do better than those managed by men. I've a friend who manages a hedge fund; I suggested that he change his name from "Michael" to "Michelle", in the best interest of his clients, of course.

I think it's an interesting bit of trivia but not something that means much to investors. You can't change your age or gender to become a better investor.

And with that, we attach the lock.
