No weight training on the off days from running?

Sorry to hear you might be hurt? What did you do?
I guess I don't count the sit ups and push ups I do every morning as exercise. I don't even think about it any more. I don't do too much weight training. I'm trying to lose some weight (I know I'm skinny) but I'm still kind of big for a runner. I just bought this watch that has a HR monitor and have been doing heart rate training. Which is where you keep your heart rate at 70-80% Max HR and that causes your body to metabolize fats and carbohydrates at the same rate. Where I used to train no pain no gain where you are burning protein (muscle). Last weekend I ran a 10k tuneup race and my average HR was 187 beats per min (BPM). That is ~ 96% of my Max Heart Rate. I ran about 3 mins slower than I wanted to because I started off too quick. Well I hope I'm not hurt so I can continue w/ this heart rate training (which is really boring) and start to see some benefits from it.

I may have Achilles tendinitis. My Achilles has been swelling up after I train. Going to the doctors today or tomorrow to get it checked out.

Check out this massive ugly thing!!! It has GPS and maps all of my runs

I have one of the garmins for my bike.
I haven't used as targeted training yet but do look at it after the run to check out the data.
I know I'm on the right track when it was successively going down.
Shockingly my heart rate goes up on hills and falls on downhill sections.

i maxed at about 180 bpm

Yeah the Garmins are teh best!!! My last 10k my Avg HR was 187 and my max was 199 . But my resting HR is @ 48 BPM. So I guess I have a good ticker and VO2 Max.

Check out my HR w/ Elevation graph

I'm a treadmill person in the winter..5+ times a week for 40 mins. Every Thursday nite we go to dance practice ...we're members of a German Folk Dance group

I have a Bally's membership but I haven't dragged myself there in years. I was a member of the gym here at work but since all I did for the most part was the treadmill I decided to do it back at home. I have one of these from Landice

although a slightly older model.

I also use free weights.

I am down to, exercise unless it hurts. Well unfortunately, it always hurts to walk or even work on a bike.
My recumbent bike is ok, but with the condition of my iliac, I cannot maintain much.
So I curl the arms with weights (not beers, boo hoo) to get a little cardio each day.
It sucks to be me.

An acquaintance wrote/edited a book back in '87 entitled "Why I Don't Jog"

My recollection is that it is filled with news reports he found over the years about people who were mauled by dogs, hit by city busses, robbed, raped, had heart attacks, strokes, etc etc all in the course of getting their exercise. And it proves my point:

Exercise kills!!
