How bad will it be
They are predicting 30+MPH winds and heavy rain tomorrow. Since I moved to a town I now rely on my own pump for the well which runs on electricity. I want to get a decent generator and wire it up to essentials like the pump, fridge and a few lights but it just isn't happening for a while. How do you guys prepare for big storms and for those of you who have their own wells, how do you make preparations for a big storm or cope when one knocks the power and therefor the pump out.
i heard it's gonna be windy and wet
have town water so i don't worry about too much. but why not stock up on bottled water and maybe fill the tub if you're worried
i did take everything inside tonight (lawn furnature etc etc) and i have plenty of propane (2 ten gallon ones) just in case i lose power i can still cook and the wood stove is ready
can't think of too much more...
oh and i'll be sure to get some makers mark

if i'm really worried about losing power I might fill the tub with water.
this sort of gaurantees that the biological functions can be dealt with and flushed with a bucket from the tub.
that and I had the boys stack a bunch of firewood in the cellar.
at least at this time of year we're talking wet and not white
i've never broken down and bought a generator. to much of a hassle to have wired into the house. your well pump is probably 230V, and about a horsepower.

Filling the tub is a good idea. I will definatly get that done. My wife is stressing out over losing the microwave to heat the baby's formula if that gets knocked out. Good thing we have propane stove so she can warm it the old fashioned way. Tomorrow morning, I am going to go pick up a few lanterns just in case.
holy cow. i just got back from the Common in Newcastle, NH and the weather right on the water is insane. high winds, slight hail, blistering rain, and high seas. definitely cool to go out in see it in person if you have the time. i love this stuff

Well, if anything good came out of such a crappy day, here it is: I have been looking at this nice gas powered leaf blower everytime we go to home depot. My wife always gives me the "you dont need that thing" routine. After all that wind from yesterday, our yard is covered in leaves. Looks like "I need that thing" now.
I think it will get alot of use blowing water out of the side mirrors and gas cap next summer when I wash the car.
