even the first floor? the previous owner put two vents in teh ceiling/floor to allow for the heat to rise, plus the stairwell is in the center of the house.

I know the 2nd floor will be tough but i figured i would be able to heat the first floor ok

the vents might help albeit totally illegal (against code) and unsafe (ie no fire stop).

stoves are considered

moment.
I can remember when most house had vent registers cut into the ceilings to allow heat to rise from floor to floor.
of course in the event of a fire, they were disastrous.

None here, electric heat.

incase you were wondering how expensive electric heat is, 480$ so far since the heat has been turned on in nov. 3 bedroom cape, full dormer.

the nice thing is every room is its own zone, and it warms up quickly when turned down.
hmm just got the electric bill,

total is now up to 730

hmm, didnt realize the vents were illegal, surprised my house inspector never mentioned that.
There illegal in new construction, but im sure there is some type of grandfathered law for homes built years ago.

no, my typical electric bill without heat is about 120 bux, with heat its about 350 bux

so the heat costs about 230 a month

considering how small the house is and how cold the house is, thats not good!

although it was -22 one morning here last month. so it has been workin hard.
