Default loose sparkplug

A few weeks ago I heard a ticking noise from the engine while standing in front of the car. since I didn't hear it while in the car, I thought it was a loose valve adjustment. While driving home through a town (low speed) I heard a very loud knocking sound. After getting car into my garage, Scott came over, pulled the engine code (trouble w/#4 cyl.), pulled all 4 coil packs and plugs. #4 coilpack was 2 inches shorter than it should have been and the threads on the plug were damaged. I decieded to take car to dealer. They pulled the cylinder head and found the bore was badly damaged from the debris going through it. Honda is so far willing to pick up the cost of a new block and head. I'm 'discussing' with them over the labor cost.( about $2000). My car had the TSB on the sparkplugs done. 25,000 miles on car. My point to all this is that you should retorque the plugs when you change the oil or any other service. Looking at the S2KI site there are a LOT of other people who have had this problem. It seems Honda has an inherent problem with loosening sparkplugs. RETORQUE YOUR PLUGS!!!

Hondas covering the parts but charging you labor, that sucks . Did you get to look at the cylinder yourself?

Give me a call when you get a chance , I will be at the shop today.

I want to see if they will give you or sell you the damaged block and head?

Go to a different dealership and see what another one says. The dealership here in CT is willing to fix and supply Honda parts to my car as long as it is within the warranty timeline/ mileage, no matter what it is.

He is out of the warranty, But they are supplying the parts for free , just not covering the labor.

Thanks Steve. Will check mine - though I don't think my torque wrench goes so low...

Quick update on engine. Northeast distric mgr. decieded that the bore was too badly damaged to repair. Head damage to sparkplug threads and potential damage to valves precludes reusing old head. Good news - Honda will pickup cost of head and block. Bad news- they want me to pay labor (about $2000) I don't think I should have to pay anything. I've contacted American Honda . Car might be done in time for Sat. party.
