it looks like i have a short in the line that goes to the volatge regulator from the (keyed) fuse (either the black and yellow wire or the white and blue wire) because the minute i supply power (turn the key) fuse #14 blows and the voltage regulator doesn't work (hence not charge the battery) -

figure i'll test the line this morning and see if it line goes right to ground - if it does - i should be able to mickey mouse it so the car will run and charge the battery just by supplying 12v directly to the voltage regulator - if this works - i'll drive the car until the weekend so i can spend more time tacking it

now would it be bad to get the 12v right from the battery?? i'll add an inline 15 amp fuse - if leaving it on all the time may cause some problems - i'll just pull the fuse when i shut the car off

Sweet, so it's fixed for good now, or you still have to tighten it up permanantly later?

When you get time I would trace the wire down . Im sure it just didn't ground itself overnight . Best bet is it is melted somewhere from the bad Alt or trying to start the car with a dead battery trying to pull amps that were not there .

Just to make sure it didn't melt to another wire

On the bright side, I have always found that when things like this happen, and you have to extensively troubleshoot, you learn ALOT about the car. You seem to have done that here, which can only be good in the end.

On a side note Steve, I have your computer taken out. I also have a power supply for you. Let me know when you want it, but no rush.
