Mac OS X has nothing over a good solid flavor of Linux (except for maybe programs to manipulate graphics). But at least Linux doesn't trick you into installing new software when simply trying to update your old software - or refuse to allow you to turn off 'plugins' such as QT...
That's a pretty strong statement about linux, but I can't say I agree! Before coming back to Macs about 4 years ago I was trying to find a x86 based laptop to run linux where EVERYTHING worked. It was a big deadend, there was always something that didn't work 100%. Examples: power management, wireless, those misc buttons on the keyboard w/vendor specific functions. Since then things have gotton better but for ease of use the macs basically offer the unixiness without the hurt. I'm still a die hard linux user (centOS & ubuntu these days) but for a laptop i still stay clear.
