Default Radar Detector Test

Just saw this radar detector comparison test from the latest Motortrend issue on their website:

Motortrend Radar Detector Comparison

I was shocked and amazed that the V1 did not run away with yet another win. In fact, they picked a Bel detector as the winner (but only when combined with the Bel laser blocking system).

Interesting. I guess they didn't deem the V1 that big of a value given its price. The following quote makes me think it still did fairly well though.

"The Valentine One clearly demonstrated the best laser detection performance but in practical terms, without laser countermeasures, this ability can provide a false sense of security."

As a stand alone unit I believe the V1 had the highest score due to its ability to best detect laser. Of course when you detect laser its because youve been nailed by it.
Overall protection from laser requires laser jamming. The best protection is the V1 and a 2nd seperate laser jamming device totaling over $1000!

But the overall point I picked up is basically all those radar/laser units you see in a wallmart or wherever for $99.99 or so are about as useful as mounting a stuffed tuna on your dash.

I have a V1 too and was totally shocked by this review. Usually the V1 trounces the competition. I still got the impression that they felt it was a good radar detector, but they just felt you need to have radar jamming as well. The Bel w/ the radar jamming option was about $700. The V1 is $400. Too bad someone doesn't make a good radar jammer for $300.

As I've mentioned in the past, Lidatek Laser Echo works. $300+ish if I remember correctly...

I put one on my bright yellow "pull me over now" S and have had proven success, right down to an officer asking me if I had a jammer before letting me go 'cause his gun "beeped back" at him.

It's the reason I have a front plate on my car.

As for detectors, I must admit my Bell (980?) makes me happy and was $100 cheaper than comparable.

Enjoy,

Randy

I knew posting in this thread would tempt fate... Let's just say my laser jammer just finished paying for itself.
