Steve do I even want to know how you got a UTAH S2k badge?

Aha! That's how you get to be in the secret meet club isn't it? The # of badges you have!

I need more...

After I goto the Breakfast and Beer Run maybe Doug will give me a NY one

So it sounds like you haveno concerns over that type of design? I'll assume they must have sometype of massive locks to keep it like this X and not like this ___
I agree that it would be great for tire changes, brakes, etc. However, I don't think I'd want to use it to drop a transmission.

Just about any type or lift has mechanical locks. Working under a lift without using them is just as dumb as working under a floor jack with no jack stands. If anything, a low or mid-rise lift might be even safer than a two-post lift. There is less chance for someone to put the pads in the wrong place and the vehicle falling off it. Of course you give up utility with a low or mid-rise lift, but not everyone has room for something else.
