RE050A Tires?
I have heard of the Bridgestone RE050A tires before, but I can't remember if they are any good. Tire rack has them on sale for like $75 each right now!!! Should I get a set since I should be needing tires soon, or should I just spend the extra money and get the S-02s?

Yea...but the rear patch is about 4/10s narrower than oem....with this type of tire, I think you would want to go with a 245/45-16 size instead of OEM size to preserve contact patch......sadly they don't make that size with the RE050A.
for the coin, I like the ECSTA MX....the section width is wider then the RE050 and the tread width is close to the S-02 when you compare them both at OEM sizes.
The Fuzion ZRi-another value choice is popular but you need to bump the rear sizing to 245/45-16. The OEM size Fuzion rear is much narrower.
I also like the SUmitomo HTR-Z very sticky and wide, OEM sizes compare very well to the S-02 tread width, the front are a 1/10 wider than OEM size SO-2, the rears are 1/10s less....I've owned these on a 5.0 mustang and my GTi-VR6.....these are on special right now....$60 a pop.....actually, spec to spec these are the closest value tires to the SO-2 out there.
Side by Side OEM size SO2 vs. Sumi HTR-Z

Tires- go get a Subaru mastercard. Reason, every time you make a purchase you get $ back in Subaru bucks, which also happen to be affiliated with Bridgestone. Therefore in time you have enough money to buy SO2's through the dealership. They rape you in cost, but I think it's ok since you spend your money somewhere else. This way I get free tires.

I don't know man... I had the Sumi HTR-Z that came w/ the Volk wheels that I bought second-hand and I am not fond of it at all. I didn't think it has enough lateral grip threshold for the S. It was good for daily driving though.
I have 14K mi on my current RE050A (stock oem on my car). Well, it is hard to compare different tires on different cars, but I can honestly say this tire has better feedback and much more grip than the Sumi. I recall reading the RE050A also has more gradual slip compared to S-02. It is definitely an excellent tire. The S sizing thing is another matter though
