I assume they're just dangling the hook to see if anyone's interested before they wholesale it.

I miss it already.

I wanted on of these so badly when they came out in 97'. It was such an original design compared to what was out there at the time. I remember reading CR and a couple of other magazine reviews at the time and they predicted it was Audis "turnaround" model that would bring the brand back from the unintended acceleration debacle a couple years earlier.

I came very close to buying the exact same model, if I just could have worked a few more hours at Donelans market at the time.

$3k, because I didn't want them to look too closely at it. Trade in was worth $4k, tops.

It was generally well cared for, but it needs work. Both in repairs and upcoming maintenance.

The ABS module needs to be rebuilt/replaced (you can send it out and have it done by ModuleMasters for ~$200, but you need to remove and replace it yourself and you won't have working brakes in the meantime) You can see in the photos that the ABS light is lit on the dash, so the dealer hasn't yet fixed it, if they will at all.

Some of the left side control arms/ball joints are rattling a bit. I replaced some a few years back, so I know the sound. They'll last a while, but they're not cheap either.

138k miles, and it's still the original clutch. It's not slipping, but from what I've seen online, it'll need one in the not too distant future.

There's rust on the driver's door bubbling out from behind the door trim. It started last year, but I don't know how bad it is inside.

The thermostat is partially broken, and doesn't close all the way. It takes forever to warm up in the cold weather, but it won't overheat. I used duct tape last winter to help.

It'll need a new timing belt job in another 12k miles. You can find local shops that'll do it for under $900, but most places are well over $1200. The thermostat is behind the water pump, so that's why I was going to wait for this maintenance to replace those as well.

The valve cover gaskets leak oil. Not bad, but some. And not a particularly difficult repair, but it does need it.

It needs new rear brake pads & rotors. Like, now. Again, not a tough fix, but it needs it soon.

And for some reason, there's water in the spare tire well. I've no idea how it gets in there, and it's only happened twice in the past 2 years. But when it does, the donut spare deflates as well.

There are a few other little issues to be expected in an 11 yr old car, but those are the reasons I decided to trade it in now.

It really was a great all-around car. It wasn't particularly fast, but it handled remarkably well. I think the driver feedback and the suspension were some of the best attributes of it. It was both comfortable and sporty.

It had loads of personality, too...

With those needed repairs I would not be sad I would be happy to have it gone

Well, I obviously went through with the deal because it was the wise thing to do.

But just like the S2000, you'd still miss it even if it made financial sense to get rid of it.
