Text Messages...
Ok, so as previously noted, my +1 got the new iPhone 3G-S last week. While it's definitely sweet, it appears that telling your friends you got an iPhone is an invitation to receive text messages from them. Now, we didn't sign up for a TXT plan, for several reasons, including $20/mo unlimited TXT is absurd, and because the phone has email and web access included in the $30/mo unlimited data plan.
So as a result, we would pay the flat rate of a ridiculous 20

I guess I pay for them in my plan
Unlimited text, unlimited 3g data and 500 peak unlimited nights and weekends (starting at 7:00) for $30.00 a month
Texting seems to be the new easy way to communicate

I go threw about 200 texts AVG per day. Send and receive. I pay the $20 a month and have no issue paying that if you wanna figure in the 10 cent or 20 per text.
Basically, the no-plan TXT price is so high, it drives people towards the plan rather than away from texting.
My wife and I looked into the iphone, but it made no sense for us. So we stayed with Verizon and have Blackberry's.
1- texting is unlimited and much cheeper
2- phone plan is less
3- unlimited data plan same price
4- discount from her job 22% off per month
5- cost of phone, everyth 2 years I pick a new one up
I'm not crazy about Verizon, most of my family has an iphone, but with the family share thing I don't get charged from them

The problem Mike, with the way you want to do text is it is not convenient. Yes it is free but really, if I had your # and wanted to text you right now I have no clue of what carrier your on. Same goes for Steve and Bill and Kenta and Dmitriy and I better say Ryan
too.
The other problem is receiving a text as an email is really a big clutter of an email box. Yes I know it is free but having the convenience of the way text is set-up when you pay for it makes it worth the $20 for me.
Thats just my take, now is it overpriced absolutley but until everyone complains all at the same time its not going to get any cheaper.
My wife and I are heavy text users it is actually our preferred means of electronic communication with all the people we know.
Its not the text and data charges tha tI hat eits the raping that goes on for voice minutes that I hate! Im on the lowest minute plan now and I still rollovr minutes every month. Text has taken the spot of minutes used and in the end its much cheaper when you weigh the cost of a higher minute plan vs unlimited text.

Bare bones cell plan, $30.00/month, no texting. It's a PIA as far as I'm concerned. I'd need a new phone with a better keyboard if I was into texting.
Don't access internet or email from cell phone either =

^ but if you were to embrace it I think you would find that it would be worth the $
Think of it this way if you text as much as you type on here than it would be a no-brainer. That in a nutshell is what text is for kids today a big forum that everyone they know is on. Kids today have grown up with text it starts with the parents than goes to the friends in grammer school it blows up in H.S. and than becomes the means of communication in college.

you never were exposed to it so therefore its understandable how you dont miss it.
