Default Thoughts on gas milage dropping!!!!

I now have running on my car.
Extra wheel weight(25 pounds total about)
255 rears.
NO CAT
TB
4.77 gears
Yellow Box(about a 4% adjustment with OEM gearing VS. actual)
71K miles on the car.

With all this crusing at about 70mph I am only getting like 21 mpg. Which is pretty crappy if you ask me.

Though with the above taken into account is this possible that I am just getting worse gas milage and it's just really starting to show now? I really started to notice that something was up because I was tuning my new gearing via the yellow box. So hence I need to now really pay attention to gas milage.

I have new oil in all the right places.

Thoughts on what contributes to worse gas milage? I am sure turning 4,500 rpms on the highway doesn't HELP the situation.

The three biggest things that would contribute to your decreased mileage are:

1. The new gears.

2. The new gears.

3. Did I mention the gears???

Unless something else is realy messed up, I'm going with the gears.

BTW, what was your mileage before you noticed the drop? I get around 26 to 28.

When Pinky and I drove down to the Dragon last year, he averaged 28 - 29 mpg with the top up on the highway. He already had the heavier wheels at the time.

I had the hardtop on, and always required 1 less gal. to fill up than Pinky.

Pinky, the gears, man...the gears.

Pinky, are you sure 4% adjustment is all you needed for the 4.77 gears?

No............4% is how much the car was off FROM THE FACTORY!!! So I lost that 4% when I changed over to the new gearing.

The tires were definitly way wider and way heavier than before.

Before I would get between highway and city 25-22. All highway I would do about 25ish. Though this has been all TOP DOWN driving so that factored in I would do about 24mpg on the highway. If it was all around town I would get 20-21. Though lead foot jim has really taken over lately.

It's way fun!!!! Though Driving down to the dragon that was some seriously STRANGELY high gas milage for myself. Though yes Ben you were a full gal. ahead of me.

Anybody have suggestions on a good(read actually works) fuel injector cleaner and one that might clean up a little carbon.

Don't feel too bad. My overall avg. mpg is 20 w/ my mods.

Strangely enough, the 24 runs at Evo school does not seem to have (adversely) affected my mpg in my current tank. Maybe the cams just geared the engine to run aggressively all the time...

Chevron Techron Concentrate

Make sure it says concentrate, 20 oz bottle should be around $8-$9, if its cheaper (like $2-$4) you got the wrong one.

After a few more gas tanks I might put my cat back on.........see if it helps.

I hate my tips turning gold and black.

4.77's have never been a good set-up for highway cruising, especially at 70 mph. Although we don't really see a big dent in fuel economy with 4.44's, I think that fuel usage goes up logorithmically with increasing highway rpms and that's why you have seen what you've seen with the 4.77's.
