Yeah Boston is kind of small. Usually in the nicer months if I have to give people a walking tour:

Fanueil Hall, Government Center, Boston Common, public gardens, Newbury st., Mass Ave Bridge, MIT. Cab it from MIT-> Havard Sq. and spend some time there.
