Default What to do in Sept?

We are taking a mini-vacation in early September. We could use some quiet away time. Auto Week had an article about Route 7 from CT, to MA to VT.

I think I may have heard a few of you speak of this road?

A new road to travel on in the S sounds good. We'd probably head to CT on Saturday 9/6, stay overnight, then hit route 7 on Sunday? Not sure where we would end up on Sunday, but probably would head home on Monday. Any suggestions of what to do, see, along the way? ? Neat towns to have lunch in? State parks to walk in?

I need to look at a map and see if this actually is what we should do, and if so, how far into VT we'd go, before heading home. All this would be weather dependent, of course.

I have a couple other areas in mind, but we've pretty much "been there done that" as far as ME, NH and parts of VT go.

Maybe we should just head to Atlantic City with our retirement account and see if we can work towards early retirement. We may just do better with gambling than with the stock market....

CT is just the starting point onto Route 7.....I think. Not looking to do much more than spend the night, as we might get a late start on the Saturday, due to kid duty.

We hit a Five Guys joint last year in VA. OMG, the burgers were HUGE! A bit much for me.

Rt 7 is in the land of Ellen and I. I live off Rt. 7 in MA and she lives off Rt. 7 in Southern VT.

Can be a great road and MANY things to stop and see along the way. One good spot would be Mt. Greylock for a state park (Tallest mtn in MA) but they are re-paving the roads to the summit and won't be open until next spring.

Rt. 7 in Berkshire Country travels through many towns where you could stop and shop for a while, then grab some food (Great Barrington, Lenox, Williamstown). Once you get north of Bennington in VT it gets a little more rural but is a great road to cruise on and see some cool things.

Let me know if you want specifics should you choose this as a destination.

I thought that was the road you folks have mentioned. We've been on bits and pieces of it along the way and in some of those towns over the years.

I'll look at a map, and see what appeals...Thanks!

PS I know many of the little towns might have neat places to shop, BUT, shopping is RARELY on our to do list. Rick would rather eat broken glass and stick needles in his eyes. We do buy presents for the grandkids whenever we take off though.

Might be a good idea. It would be different for sure....maybe we could even manage to meet my sis for dinner. I hardly see her these last couple of years....
