Got Ticket a short while back for No Insurance
#11
this also happened to me in Newark; the temporary ID card had expired the day before, and I had forgot to put the insurance card in the car...
I received a "failure to produce documents" citation; I went to Newark court and got it taken away by showing them the current ID card
I believe the cop can tow your car if in his judgment he believes you really have no insurance; in my case, the card was a day expired, and I was an Indian guy driving a Mercedes (just playing on stereotypes here!!!) so he figured it was a honest mistake.

I just got home from 'court' ---It was a small room with a Judge and a secretary type of person. It was dismissed, no court fees, nothing. Just a hassle getting into NY, then finding parking, and driving back to NJ.
Thanks everyone!
