Thanks NFRs2000NYC,

I have questions, is it possible to have a value control for the Amp? I really try not to have a head unit. It will be likely stolen again.

If I have to, I will jut have the faceplate every where with me.

I am not an audiophile. How terrible the sound quality will be if I go with the "headphone jack output to amp"(sound processed twice) route?

yea you are going to need a headunit. i have ran alpine amps in my cars for yrs and they are great. you can pick them up for around $100 new. 2 channel, 400 watt one.

my beach radio works on this very principal and it works fine. we run the ipod right into the inputs of the amp, and it gets plenty loud and sounds fine. my beach radio is a beast and is better than any other radio out there lol.

it has a 10" and a 12" sub, JL 500/1 amp, JL 300/4 amp and two components as well as ad on speakers to the extra bridged channel on the 300/4.

for toe OP's requirements, i dont think he is trying to win SQ competitions, so i think he'll be fine.

heres a lil vid of the radio from the summer...i make changes to it weekly when i get bored in the summer...

Distortion is not NEARLY as apparent on the beach with music blasting as it is in a confined enclosed space (like inside the s2000) with the speakers being 10" away from your ears.

i was just saying it works, and works fine. i dont think he is really concerned about the SQ as much as not having a head unit. if he really cared about having a great sounding system, he wouldn't be on s2ki asking about a headunit-less system, he would be looking to buy some mcintosh amps and hybrid audio components

<--- agrees 1000% with nfrs2000nyc..... it can definatly be rigged to work... but definatly not going to sound nearly as good as having a head unit....there is 1 route u can take... that he may be unaware of though.....

Hippo HIFI... a small company makes a small sound card type device... not too sure if they can make one to ur specific needs.. but all in all... what it is is a sound car with a DAC... (digital to analog converter) this will help the audio quality from the ipod transition to analog... thus making your audio quality better.... this route is a little expensive though... the hippo hifi unit i had for my carputer, cost around 300 bucks
