Thumbs up Whos got 4.77's?

Been trying to see what I want to do for more performance. I am very close to just getting a used turbo kit, but a little bit nervous about messing up the reliability and since it's my daily driver I can't afford down time all the time to fix little problems.
So my other option is getting some 4.77 gears instead. Wouldn't hurt reliability and would make the car more fun I am sure. So wondering if anyone local has some 4.77 gears installed that could take me for a quick spin to see how it feels and if it is worth the money or not. Obviously turbo is much more of a performance gain but also 3 or more times the cost.
Been craving a little more low end power recently, so these are really the only two options out there for that. Getting tuned in a week or two so I am sure that will help some as well with just over all performance. Being an '01 I am sure I can gain some nice power. Going to mines13 to get it done.

Shouldn't really be that much worse should it? Also I'm sure FI especially turbo would give much worse mpg's than these gears no?
Just need more power one way or another. Miss being able to punch the gas without downshifting and actually taking off. Seems like gears would help with that and a turbo would do much more obviously.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I think the fuel economy would be the same for a turbo car if you keep out of boost but for gears no matter how you drive it will still use more fuel than stock. Someone please correct me if I am wrong

Especially since you'll be cruising at higher RPMs.

I'll correct you

A turbocharged s2k can get the same if not better gas mileage assuming the tuner knows what he's doing. I proved this by getting 31mpg on the highway which included a couple of heavy traffic spots of stop and go. The most mpg when I was stock was only 28 and that was coming back from fall colors 05 so one constant speed the whole time.

As for gears, when I had them I NEVER got better gas mileage or even the same. I went from an average of 24mpg down to 18mpg on average (with 4.57's) but I bet at least some of that could have been from me simply driving harder.

its all about throttle position... and yes if you do drive hard, your mpg will reduce as well...

So mpg's really suffer that much? Damn. I commute a lot so if it get's real bad I might not be able to do that at all then.
9KGhost your gonna be at the meet with an S2000 that has 4.77 gears? Thought you said your old S had them. Let me know.
I thought you could also get better gas mileage around town with them because you could shift up to the next gear earlier instead of staying in say 4th you could be in 5th but at a little lower rpm. On the highway it is really that much worse than stock gearing?
