I don't think I'd miss seeing the grid girls at F1 races. They're shown only for fleeting moments and I'm not sure how relevant they are to a TV audience.
I do feel bad for some of the people mentioned in the BBC article who will likely lose this job and have no other backup. As harsh as it can be, that is the way certain jobs die away or are rendered obsolete by the advance of technology or changing social mores as appears to be the case in this point.
I can't help but think that this was a marketing move and not quite a well-thought out and strategic move. After all women continue to be objectified in other avenues and will continue to be as long as there is a market for that. F1 really should have focused more on the role women play in the sport - from engineers like Leena Gade to Team bosses like Monisha Kaltenborn and Clare Williams to the grid girls and those working behind the scenes as public relations professionals. They should have embraced the fact that they have grid girls just as they have girls who run teams and or a car and showcased the role women play in the sport. That would be a better way of dealing with this as opposed to somehow stigmatizing grid girls by banning their appearance at races and saying that it is an idea past its prime.

I meant nothing political or sexist.
Sorry to Still enjoy an occasional polically incorrect guffaw from time to time.
Perhaps part of the declining posting is fear of being labelled something negative because of others thin skin?

A few grid girls have spoken out and they say what they do is no different to others who work as team principals or in other jobs. This to me is a knee jerk “we support the movement” without actually thinking through it IMO.
I see no stigma in those that work as grid girls. Has the sport even discussed this with the women they’ve chosen to dump.

Also I think I’ll really miss Diffey/Varsha, Matchett and Hobbes more. A lot of people seem to prefer the British broadcasting teams, but I think Brundle, Coulthard and company can be a bit dry compared to our American team.

Wussyfied.
Just ban male F1 drivers and have texting soccermom's in T winged minivans drive around in the left lane of the track...
Oh, and form a committee to examine making the exhaust more attractive to spectators. What a joke.
LOL
