Anyone try the Lime Rock autocross lapping days?
Hello,
Just purchased an '07 S2K. Have never owned a car like it and would like to learn how to get the most enjoyment from it (aside from simply driving it). Came across this program at Lime Rock and though it might be right for a novice like myself. Has anyone tried it? Was it worth it? I'm only 90 minutes away.
Thanks, Jim

Definitely a good time and I'd recommend giving it a shot.
Also Sports Car Driving Association has numerous car control clinics that they conduct at LRP: https://www.scda1.com/
Those are not cheap though and cost as much as a track day.
If you really want to autocross the car, you should come run with MoHud SCCA and also go to the Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club events. MoHud lost our site earlier this season, but things look promising in terms of finding an alternative site. You'll be classed competitively and run with a great group of enthusiasts.

Website: Mohawk-Hudson SCCA
PSCC Webiste: Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club, Inc. – We are amateur motorsports in the Hudson Valley.

I recommend that you sign up for an SCDA or NASA track day instead. They will put an instructor in the car with you.
I've done the autocross at Lime Rock a number of times and in a number of cars. I've never gotten as much out of it as a regular track day. Once you do some track days, you may know what you want to accomplish on the autocross, but until then you are just throwing your car around without much purpose.

Autocross for the racer may not quite get the pulse going as much. That’s why the first time I tried it locally, I stayed away for an Year. Who wanted 6-8 30 second to 50 second runs followed by waiting or working the course. But the camaraderie and the skills I pick up at autocross I believe help me out on track. Every course is a new one and I’m forced to read the course as well as where the grip is. I’ve to always keep my eyes up and ahead and that helps out on the big track too.
The LRP autocross is probably combined with the skidpad too. So that should be a good exercise in understanding his cars breakaway characteristics.
Given a choice, i’d rather be out on the big track. But trying to keep up with the fast autocross drivers keeps me humble and hungry. I think Jim should try both and maybe even come out to Watkins Glen with us

Thanks for the replies and the links. I'll be sure to check them out. More than anything just want to get there most enjoyment out of the car by learning how best to drive it. Looks like there are some great options.
