Looks like its time for the Banquets - I am going to try and make as many as I can but the Ohio event is just too far away.

Awesome Greg. Congrats

Runoffs the target for next year? Wonder why they don't include IT-E in that?

The IT-E class was intended to allow cars from other racing series to compete in SCCA Regional Club races.
The rules are very loose and would be very easy to take an old NASCAR and run away with the class win each week.

I think I am going to remove the super charger and put my spare engine back in and look into STL or STU.

Jeff and I were invited by Jeff Daigle of Loose Nut to visit Palmer Motorsports Park.

Stopped in Pittsfield to pick up food and will head home. Will post up a review later. Until then all I'll say is if this thing comes to fruition as expected be prepared to drop Thompson.

So as the drive was cancelled, I decided to take up Jeff D's (Loose Nut) offer to go check out Palmer Motorsports Park. As the rain was on and off since this AM, I drove out in the Si. I met Jeff D at his home, and rode out with them to Palmer. Blueosprey Jeff and Nancy, came direct there.

As you make your way to the track, Exit 8 off of the Mass Pike and about another 7-8 miles, you go through the town of Palmer. It is a bit of a dump, but has some gas stations and restaurants. As we got closer to the track, there were the usual protest signs displayed in the neighbors yards. We got to the entrance of the site, and from there to where the track begins is a good 1/2 mile or so surrounded by high trees and cliffs. Me thinks the neighbors do not have to worry much about noise. Should be much lesser than Lime Rock.

COM was there too, to explore the track and the facility owner was on site as well and greeted us and escorted us to the track. COM came out in a group of about 10 cars and they were lapping the circuit when we got there, in the counter-clockwise direction of travel. The owner said he was considering also setting up additional barriers, and if at all possible would set it up so the track could drive both directions. Just as we got ready to go out, COM decided that they wanted to run the clock-wise direction. So we did a few laps. I rode along with Jeff D in his Subaru Outback and towards the end did a single lap in that same car. Then Jeff gave me the S2000 and I did a lap clock-wise followed by four laps in the counter-clockwise direction as COM wanted to go back to running the track as intended.

At the every outset it seemed to me like the track would be more fun in the counter-clockwise direction, which is their original plan. Something about running clockwise seemed off to me. When I got to running in the counter direction, the front straight is an absolute blast. As you come out of the last corner, you are on to this straight that goes down hill, levels off and then gradually goes uphill to the right, followed by a high speed left hander that goes into a double apex circle of sorts. To me it seemed kind of reminiscent of Eau Rouge and Raidillion at Spa with the way the track flowed up hill to the right and to the left.

Then we got to the twisty bits and boy oh boy are they twisty. The track goes uphill through some esses and then downhill through another series of esses, and then another big left hander and then a Right hander, followed by a straight and then a decreasing radius turn to the left, ending in a chicane and then on to downhill on to the front straight. The run offs seemed ok and they definitely need barriers as none have been put out. But the asphalt was good and the grip was far higher than at Thompson. I reckon, if this things comes online and has facilities on par with Thompson, it will not only edge them out but will also likely compete with Lime Rock.

Some Pics:

Jeff and Nancy running clockwise

The Subaru is parked in what will be the pit lane, I think. The direction it is pointed in is the counter-clock direction. Notice how the track flows uphill to the right and then to the left. Camber is good on the corners too, and the track is plenty wide.

Looking down to the pit lane from the corner in the earlier pic. Imagine cars traveling towards you. Not clear in the pic, but the track flows along the cliffs you see in the distance.

Both Jeff and Jeff D, got video of the runs and I expect they will post it at some point. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the report on the track Aa! I had seen a video of a car (electric) running the track previously (possibly posted here?) Will look forward to the new ones to see some more perspective. After Three days at NHMS that smooth new pavement is looking pretty fantastic! Are they looking to be ready to go in the spring or is there still too much to do with curbing/armco etc to be ready that soon.
