I think I just sold the Nighthawk to Jon, in Texas!
He just made me an offer of $1k, and I said yes.
Wow, I can't believe this is happening.
I think I'm doing the right thing, I think I am.
I just can't keep up with it, it is wrong to let is sit in my garage and rot.
I met Jon at F1 in Indy, he rode up every year from Texas on his ST1100.
We have been in touch because I want to hook up with him next year for a MotoGP race.
The subject of my new-to-me VFR came up, and then he asked me what I was doing with the Nighthawk, and I was
honest, I told him I just don't know, I want to find it a loving home, but don't know exactly how to go about that.
He then asked a few innocent questions, I thought out of curiosity, and then this morning's email contained an offer to buy.

Secondly, if you are feeling bad, I'd ask you to consider your decision along the following lines:
- Will you be able to afford the cost of the Nighthawk
- Cost aside, if you kept it, would you be able to give it all the care it needs and ride it regularly?
To me the positives about the sale would appear to be:
A) You know the buyer
B) It looks like Jon and you are likely to keep in touch over a longer period
C) Someday perhaps you will get a chance to buy it back because of the relationship you share with Jon.
Perhaps you could ask Jon to give you first option in the event he decides to sell it someday.

First of all Congratulations!! You did a wonderful thing by finding the Nighthawk a new home.

That's what I needed, just a gentle nudge.
You are 100% right, though money is not the object, time and ability to ride it is indeed a problem.
The 1st right of refusal is an outstanding idea.
The one other thing, for sure, Jon is indeed the right kind of owner.
Here is part of his email:
I'm a Honda guy also. I've been through the other bikes in my time but
the CB in-line fours are always fun. I love the V-4's also but the CB
transverse 4's are just cool.
I agree with you, don't sell it to some dickhead that won't appreciate
it. If we can work something out, I'm willing to take it on. I just
hate it when these things just get ratted out unnecessarily. There's a
place for ratbikes, but something like this ain't it.
My wife will roll her eyes, but she understands the sickness.
Think it over, let me know if you want additional $$$ than I said. I
can pull/redo carbs with no issue and rebuild the calipers too.
I could even arrange for some door-to-door shipping....wink-wink.
This day certainly turned interesting.

Jon sounds like the kind of guy you'd want to sell it to. His offer to up the price is also generous

I understand your dilema. But it could be at the point where my grandpa's bike is. almost 40 years in a basement, fluids drained and everything cleaned out ready to go a bout 7 years ago.
I believe i've shown you the pictures. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want this bike. but my grandma has reservations.
1000 original miles.... thats it.
chrome is in PRISTINE condition... wind screens gotta go...new tires needed..

doug, it is always better to sell something to someone who has that type of attitude towards it. the good thing is, you know he isn't jerkin your chain (no aashish that ISN'T meant to be dirty)
