that's so cool! you didn't know, but white gold is the most sought after material used to make cycling awards.
Did not know that. My award is white plastic.

It's funny, I'm scrolling through this thread at work and BAM every now and then there's a half naked hot chick. I had to minimize the screen quickly a couple of times haha.

Time to whore out some of my pics.

I'm a big mountain biker, but recently (~1 year ago) got bit by the road bug. Here's my primary mountain bike. Ellsworth Moment.

My old Schwinn Homegrown CF frame/parts that I can't seem to get rid of.

XTR crankset.

Bigger discs. Since I used to go downhilling a lot with this bike.

My Specialized Tarmac Pro.

CF goodness.

My downhilling beast. Kona Stab Deluxe. This is at Diablo Freeride Park, in north NJ.

How it gets around.

Shamoo, you have a great collection of bikes! My next build will be a XC or possibly a downhill bike. I'm not sure on your schedule but if you're ever down for some road riding or XC, let me know. You're relatively near to me too if i remember correctly.

my dads friend left his Giant road bike in my yard and its been sitting here for a few years. i plan on rebuilding it but wouldnt know where to start, just as a mini hobby. im thinking of making it a single speed.

anyway, heres to me doing a solid 15 miles tomorrow!

Sweet. First off if its been sitting around and has seen rain or excessive moister. Check for rust on the frame. Dont worry if the chain or brake parts have any but if the frame has signs of rust or corrosion.. dont bother.

I would start by stripping it down and cleaning it all the way through. Try and do the same with all components to see what you can salvage.

As far as single speed... I still dont get the big facination of late with them. Sure you shed some weight by going single speed but you loose the ability to hammer down some hills or crank up some with ease. Either way you should strip, clean, grease-up and replace what you need. Your a mechanic if I recall correctly so this should be easy for you with the right tools. Once you have put it all back together you can tune it on your own. it would make for great practice to learn and adjust your other bike as well.

It would make a cool off-topic thread to post some pics with updates.

Definitely! I'm in Old Bridge (right off of Exit 120 on the GSP). Are you doing the 5 Boro Tour? It's coming up soon. I also signed up for a 50 mile recreational ride the day before haha. Hope to make it a 100 mile weekend.

It's awesome that the weather is getting warm now, plus it's staying light out pretty late. Makes for perfect riding.

MADNESS!! but

I trained hard for the 5bbt one year till the saturday before the tour. What a miserable mistake that was. I biked for about 30 miles the day before and I was sore at the starting line the next day I still made it with good time but oooooohhh the pain. But then again if your used to that mileage on your legs. PROPS TO YOU

true. i just figured it would be a fun, cheap route to go single speed.
i would mainly use it to commute the 2 blocks to work and put all my other miles on my MTB

converting a multi gear setup to a single is not cheap. You will have to replace alot to actually do it. However if those parts are bad and need replacing anyway.. it may be cheaper.
