Air Force 4 years active duty from 94-98. Got out as an E-4 SRA. Wished I would have stayed in. I could retire in 6 years. But, i was stuck at Shaw in scumter for 3 years. I was a 2E251, Electronic and switching systems specialist. Mainly worked as a pc and printer repairman.

That is totally false unless your a trouble maker. Then you would be stuck on the ship without liberty (meaning day off). Otherwise it wasn't to bad, well also depend on what job you pick. You get to travel the world, I got deploy three times and saw Hawaii, Hong Kong, Guam, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Dubai, Bahrain, India, and Malaysia. Plus if you get deploy to combat zone, it tax free and endangerment pay without being on land.
Like they say, the only way you can in the Navy is partying to much.

Hope this help

My +1 loved the Navy (retired after 25 years - sub captain). He was saying the other day he really misses driving a boat. The camaraderie is great and you always meet up with peeps you know. He had some wonderful assignments. Plus, you have a top-secret clearance, which enables you to get a great job after you leave. Go for it! I'm sure he'd be willing to talk with you if you want. PM me if interested.

Have you guys seen a lot of older people joining either enlisted or via OCS? I'm talking about the 25-30 year old age group?

Now now, I'm sure he didn't call it a boat. My brother scolded me for that. "It's a ship!"

Blah blah, whatever. He did 5 yrs and got out. Couldn't stand the NAVY

I'd say the military is mostly about attitude. If you think your assignment/job sucks, it will. It is what you make of it. That being said...my job sucks.

^ Actually, they do call submarines "boats". The surface vessels are "ships".
