Yeah I think the coach should get repremanded for bieng a total idiot, but what about the OTHER coach? You mean to tell me you can't coach your team into a trip to the foul line and hit 1 free throw?

I would be getting my best player the ball and have them drive the lane on EVERY possession until I got a point on the board. My guess is the coach is learning disabled too.
did you not read anything at all?

its a school of 20 people, and they haven't won a game in 4 years. something tells me A) they don't really have a standout player, and B) basketball isn't on the top of that school's agenda.

It wasn't about them being losers or just being awful. It was about the sportsmanship of the winning team. Basically, they didn't have any. Even in the NBA, when a team is killing the other, they don't keep their best players in, they put in the scrubs. Come on, the coach should've instilled that into the players. That is the first thing you learn when joining a sports team. Sportsmanship is bigger than winning the game. That was the point they were making. It is very dissappointing to see the coach let that happen. What honors do you get as a coach for winning 100-0? Is it any different if the score was 100-2? I don't think so.

I give the kudos to the losing team. To me, they were the winners for just moving on after the game as the article stated.

and according to that artical:

A parent who attended the game told The Associated Press that Covenant continued to make 3-pointers -- even in the fourth quarter. She praised the Covenant players but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

"I think the bad judgment was in the full-court press and the 3-point shots," said Renee Peloza, whose daughter plays for Dallas Academy. "At some point, they should have backed off."
there's nothing right about that at all.

physical education, build teamwork. why have sports to begin with?

maybe pro's are in it to win it, but thats not the proper mentality on an amature level. or at least thats what I learned.

remember the phrase "winning isn't everything?"

and more on that, I was in band most of my public school days, and was fortunate enough to go to schools with great music programs. however, I heard my share of mediocre at best programs. so why should they even have a band program? see what that silly view gets you?

The coach posted a response on his website. It's always interesting to hear things from the other side:

[QUOTE]
After counting down the seconds until the final buzzer, I lined up my girls to wish the opposing team well, and then headed into the locker room for our post game rituals.

i'm with you coach.

sportsmanship is not the issue here. examples of poor sportsmanship are taunting, talking shit, showin' off, cheating, and so on. winning the game in a sportsmanlike manner, no matter how large the margin, is not poor sportsmanship. period. that's why they play the game, to win.

and what if they attempted like fifty 3's? that's even more proof that the poor coach tried to take it easy on them. even the most casual observer is aware that it's harder to make a three than a layup.

i probably could've beat the whole team by myself, at least by 35...

oh yeah, give coach his job back.

The only ones who pushed this into national attention were the whiney parents. Looks like the media reported one-sided and only said PEOPLE wanted to hear: that the opposing team was ruthless and had poor sportsmanship.

Defeat only makes a team stronger, which I believe the losing team gained. The ones who couldn't accept this are parents who continue to spoil our next generation.

So have them play 3-on-3 in the gym or something. Building a losing team is hardly conducive to building "teamwork", self-esteem, or any other valuable things.

Winning isn't everything but losing is nothing. Losing all the time serves zero purpose and the exercise benefits of playing can be realized elsewhere without the detrimental effect of constant loss.
