There sure seems to be quite a bit of pilot bashing, inane grade school age comments on this forum. I'm not going to try to surmise why, but like most things like this, it can usually be traced back to insecurity, a feeling of inadequacy, or just plain immaturity. Are some of you guys sure you're old enough to drive? Have you ever flown?? If so, I would challenge you to make one of these comments the next to you board, directly to the pilots.

OK, the pilots made an error. They're human. Humans tend to do that. Have any of you pilot bashers ever made an error?

I'm not going to attempt to defend the pilots. They made a mistake. They were given revocations, so their error has indeed been punished. And please don't start with the old "yeah, but... but they have control of an AIRPLANE!!!" I also seem to recall the story of a certain pilot that saved the lives of every passenger on board by landing with no power in the Hudson River - an event never before accomplished in the history of aviation. Woops - must have forgotten that one, huh?

Perhaps a few of you brave people could share what your field of expertise is, and call out a few of your work related errors you've made in your careers. Who's first?
when someone in my field royally screws up, bad enough to get into the newspapers, i'm going to be pissed at him for making all of us look bad... not defending him to my last breath.

just sayin'.

and please note, i'm not bashing them, i don't know the situation and frankly i don't care. they obviously have been punished enough, given the story has made it to s2ki...

LOL

no matter what our backgrounds are or what we know about flying or pilots in general (trust me, some know much more than others), this story represents GROSS NEGLIGANCE no matter how you slice it and any comment or conjecture we can come up with in here is warranted IMHO.

Besides, nothing we can possibly say in here has any affect on anything associated with this case.

Sorry you got a little sand in your vajayjay over it....maybe you or someone you know is a pilot and you dont like some of the comments in here. ask yourself this question: Do you or anyone you know behave the way we are describing? No? then who cares?

Pilots (especially commercial pilots) have a stigma about them...sorry about that

Obviously you are butthurt for some reason over comments made on this story... the fact of the matter is most of OUR jobs dont include the responsibility of the safety of 100+ people. But for people who do have such jobs, they deserve the scrutiny when there is this level of negligence.

Why so mad about people expecting pilots in charge of more than 100 people's lives to actually do the job they're hired to do? You don't have to be a pilot to call these idiots out for what they did. There's a much higher responsibility when you take on a job like that and if you can't handle it then you need to find another job. You don't lower the expectations to accommodate the people who can't bother to respond to air traffic control for more than an hour and fly more than 100 miles past their destination. I realize that once they get to cruising altitude the pilots don't need to pay a lot of attention, but I do expect them to respond to air traffic control in a timely manner and actually land the plane at the airport they're supposed to. That is what they're paid to do.

Call them out! Re-read my post - I'm not defending the pilots. Got it?

Call them incompetent, or assign all the judgement you wish. Just try to drop the childish 4th grade remarks. I'm annoyed at the immaturity by members and guests of this forum. Do you now understand?

Once again, some of you have it wrong. I’m not ‘hurt’, or offended at all. Let me try to bring this to your level so you can understand:

Suppose you pay admission to see a movie, only to have a obnoxious, snot nosed fat little kid sit behind you in the theatre and distract you from the movie you went to see. You have a few options, tell the kid to shut up, move, etc., but let’s face it – you’d be annoyed, right?

Well, the same applies here. I see a topic that I’m interested in, and expect to see some intelligent dialog, given this is an adult forum. Instead, I find a bunch of posts that appear to have been written by 9 year olds. This happens all too often on S2KI. Of course, one can read past these, ignore them, or leave all together; but it’s annoying.

The feeble attempts by some at humor are downright weak.

To leave this, and back to topic, my guess is the pilots were catching up on some needed sleep, given schedule demands.

If you don't like

-immaturity
-silly jokes
-inappropriate jokes
-general stupidity

...off topic is not the place for you. Actually, the internet in general...

To extend your analogy... I have seen maybe 2 movies in theatres in the last 3 years, because I hate dealing with the people who occupy the other seats (among other reasons).

qftmft

Lets run a little further w/ the movie comparison since I think you have skewed expectations. OT is the low-brow movie that people go to see for a cheap laugh. Cheap shots and fap/fart/retard jokes that everyone can enjoy.

Maybe you can go to the theater this weekend and demand your money back when the new Saw movie has too much gore?

Relax and enjoy, this is OT.

I am really not even going to dignify this as a response, as I have responded too many times to people "upset" or "bothered" by the nature of OT topics, or certain posts in general and people still feel they need to b!tch about it.

Yeah. This thread sucks. But your avatar saves it.
