4 yr. Internet Degree.
Here is the long story. A friend of mine a single mother age 25. She graduated from H.S. but never did go to college. She has decided to go get her bachelor's. Unfortunately, with a 4 year old kid, she really can't do that. So she is trying to get a Bachelor's on the net while she continues to work. She wants to do it through a reputable University. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
At present, she is talking to Ashford Univ. Seems like a decent school. Are there any evaluations(websites) out on these types of universities. She wants to avoid Univ. of Pheonix and other crap schools like that.
TIA.

My wife got her master's degree online from UIUC, which is a highly respected school. At the time they only offered a masters in Library Science, but it looks like they now offer some undergrad coursework as well.
(BTW, UIUC houses NCSA, which created the first popular web browser, NCSA Mosaic.)
They did require her to spend a week or two on campus at the beginning of each semester to meet the teachers and classmates. Don't know if that is still a requirement or not.

In California, some junior colleges offer many of their courses on line. If Texas has the same plan she could almost get her AA for free. By then the child would be in school and she could finish her BA/BS at a local college or do an on line degree.
Unfortunately I don't have any specific schools to recommend, but I'm working on my masters via distance ed through a highly respected university and am very frustrated at the lack of support. I would strongly suggest that your friend try to find out how supportive faculty are of students who aren't able to physically drop in to their offices for assistance.
Also, I assume that she can't/doesn't want to use formal child care so she can attend classes? I don't know what it's like where she lives, but here parents can get subsidized day care if they qualify.

She needs to verify that the school has regional accreditation. She might want to move to a different school in the future, and it ain't gonna happen if the school's not accredited. Check out this website:

I'm taking distance classes right now, and this site really helped me out. It gave me a good idea of what is out there.
