i just got this thing home....at funny angles the picture seems hard to see... is that normal, or a part of the DLP? it is not quite like the old 'big screens' where you sat to the left and couldn't see much of anything, but definately not clear from the sides or above?

any insight would be great.... I currently have it on the floor and will have it on a stand later, but thought I would ask....

thanks
my Samsung DLP doesn't seem to have that problem. if you are WAY off to the side it can get hard to see, but that is to be expected. i bet it will look a lot better after you get it up on a stand.

Hmm... No, doesn't sound familiar, sorry. Mine's quite clear at oblique angles. But I don't look at it that way much, so maybe mine does the same thing and I just don't notice it as a problem?

I plan to get a 50-56" Sony SXRD 1080p in the near future, or maybe a JVC HD-ILA (both LCoS).

Everyone approve?

My brother got a 42" Samsung DLP, but the picture is always noisy. Is this normal? He refuses to let me calibrate it, too.

yes I approve. I would suggest a sony LCoS set over the JVC, as I prefer the PQ. The A2000 series from sony is a great TV. The difference between this line and the XBR2 line is older video processing, sd card slot, and lower brightness bulb, but 1) the bulb is still very bright, and 2) No one can tell the difference in PQ between the two so video processing is moot. The price is also right. $2100 for the 60" noisy picture is probably due to a crappy input.
